Nay-Mark (Yiddish: "new market") is a common family name for Jews in Europe.
Jewish family names were throughout history based on the father's name, for instance David Ben Yosef, meaning David the son of Yosef (Joseph in English) or Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai, meaning Shimon the son of Yochai. ("Ben" means "son" in Hebrew and "Bar" is the equivalent in Aramaic.
After the Middle Ages Jews were required to adopt family names so they used several methods to make them, for example from their professions (Builderman=Painter, Musicant=Musician etc.).
Naymark was a name adopted by merchants such as Aharon Naymark who was a famous fabrics merchant: his descendants today are famous jewelers.
