In 1987 two vampire movies were released: “The Lost Boys” and “Near Dark.” While “The Lost Boys” went on to a very substantial commercial success, the critically-superior film “Near Dark” bombed out of the theaters, but developed a very vocal cult following on home video[1]. In part of Warner Brothers new ‘Independent Label’ a modestly budgeted $5 million remake has been commissioned headed by Ryan Zeller (“One Tree Hill” & “The Hills have Eyes”) in his directorial début[2].
Very little is known about the plot and it is still unclear how faithful the remake will be to the original’s plot. What is known is that the central focus will be on three teenagers in a family of vampires traveling route 66 in the late 1980s[3].

Filming for the film took place in the summer of 2007.[4] After several weeks, filming was halted by the studio not liking the dailies. They have since gotten a new script, hired a new director, and re-cast the majority of the film[5]. Sophia Bush & Bill Paxton were originally set to star[6].
The entire second act as well as much of the first and a good amount of the fourth were filmed. The entire third act, as well as the resolution of the film were never completed[7].
It is a remake of the 1987 film of the same name, the film was produced by Warner Brothers and was supposed to be released in March 2008, but due to many problems with the production the filming was never completed[8].
The originally director of the remake was Sam Bayer, the movie would be written from Matt Venne and Christopher B. Landon, produced by David Bixler and Amy Kaufman.
