Nejc Pečnik (born 3 January 1986) is a Slovenian football midfielder who currently plays for CD Nacional and for the Slovenian national team.

Club career

Pečnik started his career at his hometown club NK Dravograd. After showing promise in Dravograd's youth team, he was signed by NK Celje. He made his PrvaLiga debut on 24 April 2004 in a match with Ljubljana. [1] The following year, he played 7 league matches and few Cup ties, including final against FC Koper. [2] In the 2005-06 season he managed to gain a regular place in Celje's first team. Following seasons, Pečnik establish himself as a key player. In the 2007-08 season he was Celje's top scorer with 14 league goals. [3] After five seasons with NK Celje, he was loaned out in June 2008 to Sparta Prague. [4] He spent only 6 months in Prague and made only 4 appearances in Gambrinus liga. [5] In February 2008 he returned to NK Celje. [6] After a short spell in Celje, he signed with CD Nacional. International career

Pečnik made his debut for the national side in World Cup 2010 qualifying match against Northern Ireland on April 1, 2009. [9] He scored his first goal for Slovenia on October 10, 2009 in a 2010 World Cup qualifying match against Slovakia.

On November 14, 2009, Pečnik scored the goal for Slovenia in the first leg of their 2010 World Cup play-off against Russia in Moscow which eventually won them the tie on the away goals rule.

Nejc is brother of Andrej Pečnik, Slovenian football defender who made 4 appearances and scored 1 goal for Slovenian national team.
