High school years

While attending Brantford Collegiate Institute in Brantford, Ontario, Kaczur was rated as the best prep lineman in Ontario, was voted his school’s Lineman of the Year four times, and was his team's Offensive MVP in his junior and senior years. He also played for the Brantford Bisons of the Ontario Varsity Football League.

College years

Kaczur attended the University of Toledo and was a four-year starter on the offensive line. As a freshman, he was named a third-team freshman All-American by The Sporting News. As a sophomore, he won All-MAC first-team honors. He was a recreation and leisure studies major at the University of Toledo.

Pro career

He was selected in the third round of the 2005 NFL Draft (100th overall) out of the University of Toledo. He started all but three games at left tackle for the New England Patriots in 2005, following an injury to veteran Matt Light. Kaczur played surprisingly well but, after suffering an injury early in 2006 training camp, he lost the chance at a starting job as right tackle to fifth-round pick Ryan O'Callaghan. After recovering from his injury Kaczur returned to the starting lineup and helped the Patriots make a run to the AFC Championship Game against the Indianapolis Colts. He has started at right tackle since Week 8 of the 2006 season. He was signed to a four-year, $16 million extension on August 24, 2009.

Drug allegations

On June 4, 2008 the Boston Globe published a story by John Ellement and Shelley Murphy[1] alleging that Kaczur had been arrested in April 2008 for illegal possession of the prescription painkiller oxycodone. Kaczur cooperated with the Drug Enforcement Administration, wearing a hidden recording device during drug transactions, in an undercover operation to apprehend the drug dealer.
