Norbert Röttgen (born 2 Juli 1965) is a German politician of the Christian Democratic Union of Germany, and a lawyer by profession. A member of the Bundestag since 1994, he has served as his party's chief whip since 2005. He is regarded as a close confidant of Chancellor Angela Merkel. He took office as Federal Minister for Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety in the Second Cabinet Merkel on 28 October 2009.

Swedish Minister for the Environment Andreas Carlgren has described Röttgen, along with Claude Wiseler of Luxembourg, as the most good-looking Minister for the Environment in the EU.[1]
