Northwest Hospital & Medical Center, opened in 1960, is a full-service nonprofit health care provider located on a beautifully landscaped 33 acre (13 hectare) campus just minutes north of downtown Seattle. It is Seattle's only independent full-service, non-profit hospital north of the Lake Washington Ship Canal. The Seattle Breast Center at Northwest Hospital provides all-digital mammography, breast health screenings, breast cancer diagnosis and treatment. Northwest Hospital is a leading provider in the Pacific Northwest of Gamma Knife radiosurgery for treatment of functional diseases of the brain, and is also a center for advance treatments of neurological disorders and diseases, including Deep Brain Stimulation. The hospital has established preeminent programs in cardiology, including an open heart surgery program, with the UW Medicine Regional Heart Center. The Northwest Hospital Childbirth Center is known for its creation of the Labor, Delivery, Recovery, and Postpartum room concept for childbirth. The hospital offers innovative rehabilitation therapy in unique therapy environment called Easy Street, a full-scale replica of a cityscape.
