From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Australian Oath of Allegiance is an Oath of Allegiance made to the Monarch of Australia, presently Her Majesty Elizabeth II. There is also an Oath of Affirmation of Allegiance, both of which are defined by the Constitution of Australia.

New immigrant citizens of Australia swear the Oath of Citizenship.

The Oath of Allegiance

The Oath of Allegiance is attached as a schedule to the Constitution and reads as follows:

I, A.B., do swear that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to Her Majesty Queen Victoria, Her heirs and successors according to law. SO HELP ME GOD!

The name of the reigning monarch is substituted from time to time as required, and thus the current Oath reads:

I, A.B., do swear that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second, Her heirs and successors according to law. SO HELP ME GOD!

The Oath of Affirmation

The Oath of Affirmation is attached as a schedule to the Constitution and reads:

I, A.B., do solemnly and sincerely affirm and declare that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to Her Majesty Queen Victoria, Her heirs and successors according to law.

Again, the name of the reigning monarch is substituted from time to time.
