From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In mathematics, the ordinate of an ordered pair (xy) is its second component, i.e. it is y.

It is the second of the two terms by which a point is referred to, in a system of fixed rectilinear coordinate (Cartesian coordinate) axes. The first coordinate, or "x" coordinate, is called the abscissa.

Examples

  • The point (12, −18) has an ordinate of −18.
  • The point (−7, 3) has an ordinate of 3.
