Pacific Sunwear of California, Inc. (also known as PacSun) is a US based retail clothing company rooted in the youth culture and fashion vibe of Southern California. The company sells casual apparel with a limited selection of accessories and footwear designed to meet the needs of teens and young adults. As of May 2, 2009, the company operated 927 PacSun stores in 50 states and Puerto Rico. PacSun is headquartered in Anaheim, California and operates a distribution center in Olathe, Kansas. History

The store was founded in 1980 by Tom Moore as a Newport Beach, California surf shop under a different name, selling surfboards and wax. Because it was so slow on the beach during the winter Pac Sun decided to open its first shop in Santa Monica Place in Santa Monica, California. They sold swim suits, T-shirts, shorts, until major companies wanted to join them, and started opening more stores all over California. By 1987, they had a total of 21 stores. In 1993, the company was operating 60 stores and went public. As of 2008, the company claimed 859 stores and 76 outlets.[4]

More recently, the company has expanded product offerings to include: sweatshirts, jeans, and accessories often associated with skateboarding culture. The company used to carry shoes, but due to a low profit margin, shoe sales were discontinued in all stores in April, 2008. As of June 2009 the company had resumed the sale of Nike brand shoes both in store and on its website.[5] Popular clothing brands sold at the store include , Alpinestars, Billabong, Bullhead, Circa, Metal Mulisha, Dakine, DC Shoes, DCMA Collective, Electric, Element, Hurley, éS, Ezekiel, Fox, O'Neill, Quiksilver, and Volcom as well as the company's own brand, Vurt. In 2009, they expanded to the overseas markets by making the international shipping option available. The company's stock is publicly traded on the NASDAQ under the symbol PSUN.
