The Pennsylvania Democratic Party is the local branch of the Democratic Party in the state of Pennsylvania. The Pennsylvania Democratic Party has had strong support in the Pittsburgh and Philadelphia area for a long time, having controlled the mayoral office in Philadelphia since 1952, the Pittsburgh's Mayoral office since 1933. The Pennsylvania Democratic Party had made some tremendous gains in recent history while retaining the governorship since 2003 with the election of Ed Rendell in 2002 and his re-election in 2006, Democrats have picked up a Senate seat in 2006 with the election of Bob Casey Jr., and have won a majority in the State house in 2006 and again in 2008. Democrats have made significant gains registering democrats during the 2008 Presidential election, with registered democrats outnubering registered republicans almost 3-2. [1]
