Pielavesi is a municipality of Finland.

It is located in the province of Eastern Finland and is part of the Northern Savonia region. The municipality has a population of 5,148 (31 December 2009)[2] and covers an area of 1,406.63 square kilometres (543.10 sq mi) of which 253.13 km2 (97.73 sq mi) is water.[1] The population density is 4.46 inhabitants per square kilometre (11.6 /sq mi).

Urho Kekkonen, a former President of Finland who ruled the country over two decades, was born in Pielavesi.

The municipality is unilingually Finnish.

Pielavesi is also well-known for its successful volleyball club, Pielaveden Sampo.
