Pierre-François-Léonard Fontaine by Louis-Léopold Boilly

Pierre François Léonard Fontaine (September 20, 1762 – October 10, 1853) was a neoclassical French architect, interior decorator and designer, who worked in such close partnership with Charles Percier, originally his friend from student days.

Starting from 1794, it is fruitless to disentangle artistic responsibilities in their work. Together, Percier and Fontaine were inventors and major proponents of the rich and grand, consciously archaeological versions of neoclassicism we recognize as Directoire style and Empire style: see Charles Percier.

Fontaine was born at Pontoise, Val-d'Oise and died in Paris.
