Poşta Română (Romanian Post) is the state-owned postal service of Romania. The company is responsible for the delivery of mail in Romania, as well as the issuing of postage stamps. It also provides a range of other services, including logistics, currency exchange, software development and consultancy services. Poşta Română is a founding member of the Universal Postal Union. In 2004, Poşta Română was the host and organiser of the UPU's 23rd Universal Postal Congress, which was held in Bucharest.

As of 2005, the CEO of Poşta Română is Gabriel Mateescu.

Future privatisation

On July 15, 2005, the Romanian government announced that it plans to restructure and then privatise Poşta Română by 2008.[1]

A common problem is the quality of the service. Packages take 6 to 7 days to arrive and 3 to 4 days with express services. Tipically an EMS package takes a few days to arrive from abroad in the hands of the Romanian Post. Adding to this problem is that official complaints filed by customers are always ignored. The quality of the postal system has improved in the past years, even more now that the entire car park was renewed
