Poncotsu Roman Daikatsugeki Bumpy Trot 2 (ポンコツ浪漫大活劇バンピートロット2 Ponkotsu Rouman Dai Katsugeki Banpītorotto 2) is the upcoming sequel to the game Steambot Chronicles (known in Japan as Bumpy Trot). It was officially announced on September 2006, at the Tokyo Game Show. It is currently in development by Irem Software Engineering for 2009 release. Little is known about the plot and the characters, though the first and second trailers featured Connie and Basil respectively, suggesting a return of characters from the original game.
Initially the game was designed for the PlayStation 2, with the first trailer showing the new protagonist (unnamed) and a female companion (also unnamed) first exploring a wintery forest before being confronted by larger Trotmobiles, followed by a montage of gameplay elements ranging from downhill combat, fire fighting, loading and unloading ships, and performing in a band. However, an issue of Famitsu revealed details that the title moved production to the PlayStation 3 and that Irem would unveil a new trailer at the 2007 Tokyo Game Show.[1] The new trailer showed off the game's graphical increase (which retaining the cel-shaded style of the original), and show casing more action oriented scenes than the first trailer. Basil, another character from the original game, is seen traveling with the new main character (still unnamed) and the title's lead female (whose design has been heavily altered from earlier promotional material, becoming a brunette instead of a blonde).
Currently, there is no mention of an outside of Japan release.
Details are scarce at best, with speculations of the hero being homeless (as noted by his ratty clothes and occupation as a shoe-shiner), while the girl is shown trying (unsuccessfully) to sell flowers. Both the first and second trailers feature the song "From me to You", while showing the two accompanying one another on various adventures, including an encounter with the minor bandit group, the Killer Elephants, from the original.
