Location of the Port St. Lucie Metropolitan Statistical Area in Florida

The Port St. Lucie, Florida Metropolitan Statistical Area is a Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) consisting of Martin County and St. Lucie County in the state of Florida in the USA. The principal city in the MSA is now Port St. Lucie, located in St. Lucie County. In 2005 the population of the MSA was 381,033.[1] The Fort Pierce Metropolitan Statistical Area was first defined in 1983, and included Martin and St. Lucie Counties. In 1993 Port St. Lucie became a principal city, and the MSA became the Fort Pierce-Port St. Lucie Metropolitan Statistical Area. In 2006 the name was changed to its present form and Fort Pierce was dropped as a principal city.

As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 319,426 people, 132,221 households, and 90,450 families residing within the MSA. The racial makeup of the MSA was 83.40% White, 11.39% African American, 0.26% Native American, 0.81% Asian, 0.07% Pacific Islander, 2.51% from other races, and 1.55% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 7.90% of the population.

The median income for a household in the MSA was $39,723, and the median income for a family was $47,313. Males had a median income of $33,090 versus $24,842 for females. The per capita income for the MSA was $24,187.

The Port St. Lucie-Sebastian-Vero Beach Combined Statistical Area is composed of the Port St. Lucie and Sebastian-Vero Beach Metropolitan Statistical Areas. As well as the area included in the Port St. Lucie MSA, it includes all of Indian River County.
