This page is a guide for creating new picture selections for the portal. Each month requires a new page to be created in advance. These pages are automatically included in the portal for their respective month.

General guidelines

Pictures should have some visual merit, and be accompanied by interesting text and links to encourage the reader to explore further.

Select pictures that are of a different topic and from a different waterway than the previous month. For example, do not follow a 'lock on the K&A' by either 'an aqueduct on the K&A' or 'a lock on the L&L'.

Only link to waterways related pages. For example, to locate a photo, use 'on the Kennet and Avon Canal' rather than 'at Bradford on Avon'.

Suggestions for pictures

Make suggestions for suitable pictures on the talk page. Leave comments there if an item needs more work.
