Possession is a psychological thriller film starring Sarah Michelle Gellar and Lee Pace.[1]

Jess (Gellar), a woman whose life turns surreal after an automobile accident leaves both her husband Ryan and her brother-in-law Roman (Pace) in a coma. Things take an even darker turn when Roman wakes believing that he is Ryan. As Jess tries to deal with these increasingly disturbing events, she also struggles with the possibility that either the spirit of her husband has returned to her or that something very sinister is at work. This movie embodies the possibility that human possession is possible, and it can happen when you least expect it.

Note: There is a 30 minute alternate ending on the DVD that fundamentally reconstructs the narrative.

The film has had a range of release dates - starting with February 2008. The film was finally set to be released in theatres in January 2009, but due to financial problems at YARI Film Group,[2] the release was yet again pushed forward.

In March 2009 it was announced that the film would skip theatrical release altogether, and go straight to DVD/Blu-Ray on May 12, 2009.[3][4][5]

However, in early April, the release was delayed, as rumors for a summer theatrical release through Spitfire Pictures surfaced.[6]

The movie was released theatrically in Israel on August 20.[7][8]

The movie was released straight to DVD in the U.S. on March 9, 2010, also on Blu-Ray.[9]

The film is based on the 2002 South Korean film Addicted.

It was originally known as Addicted and while news of the name change emerged in early August 2007, it was mid December before it was confirmed by the producers with Sarah Michelle Gellar not being sure of its name in the intervening period.[1]

The film is set in San Francisco, however it was filmed in Vancouver, British Columbia. Possession is funded and will be distributed by Yari Film Group (YFG).
