Location of RAF Gambut, Libya

RAF Gambut is an abandoned military airfield in Libya, located about 5km north-northeast of Kambut and 50km east-southeast of Tobruk.

During World War II it was used by the Royal Air Force and the United States Army Air Force during the North African Campaign.

The USAAF Ninth Air Force 376th Bombardment Group used the airfield between 3 January and 22 February 1943.

Today the remains of the airfield – deteriorating under the desert sands – are visible on aerial photographs.
