The Rajasthani language movement has been campaigning for greater recognition for the Rajasthani language since 1947. Rajasthani is still officially considered a dialect of Hindi. However, the Sahitya Akademi considers it a distinct language.

Gujarati, a language descended from Old Rajasthani, is officially considered a distinct language.
