Rakesh Roshan (Punjabi: ਰਾਕੇਸ਼ ਰੋਸ਼ਨ, Hindi: राकेश रोशन, Urdu: راکیش روشن) (born Rakesh Roshan Lal Nagrath on 6 September 1949 in Bombay, Maharashtra, India) is a producer, director and former actor in Bollywood films who was born in a punjabi family migrated from Pakistan during partition. Roshan is known for directing films with the title always beginning with "K".


Personal life

Roshan's father was the Bollywood music director Roshan and his brother, Rajesh Roshan, is also a music director. Rakesh is married to film actress Pinky. His son, Hrithik Roshan, is also an actor


He set up his own production company Filmkraft in 1980 and his first production was Aap Ke Deewane (1980). He made his directorial debut with Khudgarz (1987) and went onto direct several Box office hits such as Kishen Kanhaiya (1990) and Karan Arjun (1995). Rakesh launched his son Hrithik's career as an actor with Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai (2000) This film entered the Limca Book of Records for the most number of Awards won by a Bollywood Film and was also the highest grosser of 2000.[1] He directed his son once again in the science fiction film Koi... Mil Gaya (2003), and its sequel, the science fiction superhero film Krrish (2006) both of which have been very successful at the box office.[2] He is set to direct a sequel to Krrish and is the producer of the film Krazzy 4 which released on 11 April 2008. Currently, he is working on the new film, Kool Hai... Rockin'!, in which he plays a doctor who decides to become a rock superstar.
