Ram Jaane (Devanagari: राम जाने, Nastaliq: رام جانے, translation: "Ram Knows" or "God Knows") is a 1995 Indian Bollywood movie directed by Rajiv Mehra about an unnamed kid (portrayed by Shahrukh Khan) who grows up to become a gangster. He uses the name Ram Jaane after meeting with a priest who in response to the kid asking about his name said "Ram Jaane" (God knows). The movie ranks the 8th highest grossing Hindi movie of 1995 and is also the second time Shahrukh Khan is playing an anti-hero after Baazigar

Ram Jaane is a movie inspired by the James Cagney movie Angels With Dirty Faces. In it, the central character is arrested by a security guard after stealing cargo from a train with his best friend. He is shortly released and becomes one of the biggest hustlers in the city. After a deadly shootout, he is arrested by a corrupt police department and sent to jail again. After a few years of serving jail time, he goes back to the streets and to his friend's place. There he decides to help him raise the local kids in the area so they won't be corrupted by the streets. He quickly falls in love with a childhood girlfriend Bela (Juhi Chawla), but also goes back to his old ways.

After some time, Ram Jaane returns to his old cohort Pannu "Technicolor" asking for his cut he had promised him four years ago before going to jail. He then achieves his cut from Bhau (Gulshan Grover) who in reality wants him dead. After some time, Ram Jaane figures out that Bela doesn't love him but she loves Murli. In a twist and turn of events Ram Jaane eventually goes to jail for killing the local corrupt police officer, but at court decides to undergo deathrow. Then Murli visits him shortly requesting him to act out like a coward before his death so the kids would end their obsession of following his lifestyle. At first he straightforwardly refuses but changes his mind and acts out before he hangs. It turns out in the end through a letter Bela read that Ram Jaane only gave up his life so she can have a future with Murli.
