From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network (RAINN) is the largest anti-sexual assault organization in the United States.[1] RAINN operates the National Sexual Assault Hotline and carries out programs to prevent sexual assault, help victims, and to ensure that rapists are brought to justice.

RAINN was founded in 1994 by Scott Berkowitz. Music artist Tori Amos was a founding member and the organization's spokesperson.[2][3] Christina Ricci is currently RAINN's national spokesperson.

National Sexual Assault Hotline

The National Sexual Assault Hotline is a partnership of more than 1,100 local rape crisis centers that provides sexual assault victims with free, confidential services around the clock. The hotline helps 140,000 sexual assault victims a year and has had more than one million calls since 1994. The National Sexual Assault Online Hotline uses web-based counselling services in the form of anonymous instant messaging.[4]

RAINN held RAINN Day 2009 on September 24, 2009, as part of its annual campaign to stop sexual assault on campuses.
