History

Redback Networks was founded in August, 1996 by Gaurav Garg and Asher Waldfogel, and traded on NASDAQ under the symbol RBAK. It was acquired by Ericsson in January 2007.[1]

Products

Redback's major products include the SmartEdge (Multi Service Edge Router), the SMS (Subscribers Management System) and NetOp (Element Manager and Policy Manager).

  • The SmartEdge Multi Service Edge Router (MSER) integrates edge routing, ethernet aggregation and subscriber management into one platform. Current models are SE100, SE400, SE800 and SE1200.
  • The SMS (Subscribers Management System) platform for provisioning, aggregating and managing broadband subscribers and services through a single, unified platform (BRAS). The only current model is the SMS 1800, which is going obsolete as it does not support IPv6.[2]
  • The NETOP family of network and service management software for advanced per-subscriber and per-session policy management, including NetOp Element Server and NetOp Policy Manager.
