In the proximity of Reggane at 26°43' northern latitude and 0°17 ' eastern length there was until 1965 a rocket launching site where numerous civilian and military ballistic rockets were launched. France conducted 4 nuclear tests in the vicinity of Reggane in 1960 and 1961, before Algerian independence.[1] The climate is extreme Arid and known for very high summer temperatures. On 12 July 2002 the highest official temperature was 58.9 °C.
