From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Registerware refers to computer software which requires the user to give personal information, e.g an email address, through registration in order to download or use the program. This can be considered as a type of freeware.

An example of registerware is the home edition of Avast!, in which it is distributed for free, but requires the user to register it for them to use it normally.[1] Another example of this might be Grand Theft Auto and Grand Theft Auto 2, which are available as registerware from the company's website [2]
