Return to Sleepaway Camp is the direct sequel to the cult classic film, Sleepaway Camp. It was written and directed by Robert Hiltzik, the creator of the original film. The original's star, Felissa Rose, makes a cameo appearance in the film and assisted with casting. Paul DeAngelo and Jonathan Tiersten also return in the sequel, with Vincent Pastore from The Sopranos starring as the camp's owner. The film also contains one of the last performances by Isaac Hayes who plays "Charlie the Chef." Members of the band CKY make cameo appearances as counselors.[1]

The sequel wrapped filming in 2003 and was scheduled to be released in the early part of 2006, but has been delayed several times due to unsatisfactory CGI effects. The executive producer of the film, Gustavus Adolphus College graduate Tom van Dell, claimed that the corrected CGI was completed as of December 2006, but the director, Robert Hiltzik confirmed that it needed more work to meet his expectations. By 2007 top compositors and CGI personnel had been hired by van Dell to correct the FX. In January 2008, it was learned that all of the work was finished with the film and that the producers had secured distribution through Magnolia / Magnet. The film's U.S. release date was November 4, 2008 with a release in all international markets following by the end of 2008.

Plot summary

The film begins with some boys, Eddie (Miles Thompson), Mark (Tommy John Riccardo), and Billy (Dino Roscigno) lighting farts while Pee Pee (Paul Iacono) watches. Alan (Michael Gibney) walks in to see what's up and gives it a try. But after embarrassing himself for his flame not being big, he threatens them by using insect spray and the lighter as a flamethrower until their counselor, Randy (Brye Cooper), walks in and Alan runs out. That very evening, Alan starts a fight with Randy in order to get some ice cream. Alan is allowed in the kitchen until Mickey (Lenny Venito) starts throwing eggs at him for going through his freezer without permission and then Alan throws a butcher knife at him, nearly hitting him in the face while the camp's owner, Frank (Vincent Pastore), watches. Alan, who has rheumatic fever, runs away crying, with his stepbrother Michael (Michael Werner) chasing after him. After threatening Michael with his own pocket knife, Michael goes back to the camp, telling Alan he doesn't care what he does any more. Back at the kitchen, Mickey is cooking fries for his own dinner, until someone grabs him by the legs and dumps him, head first, into the deep-fryer. The killer then throws his body in the trash compactor, where his body is crushed.

During the social, Weed (Adam Wylie) and Stan (Chaz Brewer) trick Alan into smoking dried cow manure, mistaking it for marijuana. Later, at 2:00 a.m., Weed, who is sleeping down by the waterfront, is tied to his chair and gas is squirted down his throat. The killer then sticks a lit up cigarette in his mouth and his insides explode. Paranoid Ronnie (Paul DeAngelo, reprising his role) starts to believe the grisly murders that happened at Camp Arawak 20 years ago are starting again. Though Frank, in an attempt to ignore bad publicity, states that the murder was just a nasty accident and the camp continues to go on with its normal activities. A week later, Alan is bullied more than usual, first being shot during a paintball war, then Michael makes Alan look like a sick twisted freak in order to steal Karen (Erin Broderick) away from Alan, and Alan is given a wedgie by T.C. (Christopher Shand) and Chooch (Lucas Blondhelm) in front of everyone at the waterfront. That very evening, Michael, T.C., and Marie (Samantha Hahn) force Karen to lure Alan to the back of the stage, where they rip his clothes off, tie him up, blindfold him and embarrass him in front of everyone at the social.

Ronnie is now starting to get the feeling that one of the counselors, Petey (Kate Simses) is the killer due to her being everywhere at every time Alan gets into some kind of trouble. T.C. and nine others start calling Alan his hateful nickname: "Blowjob!" Alan goes back to his rheumatic state and runs off into the night. Later that evening, Frank is knocked unconscious with a hammer and wakes up with his head in a birdcage. The killer opens up the bird cage, places 2 rats inside and locks it. The rats then eat through his head and exit through his intestines. Meanwhile, Randy and Linda (Jackie Tohn) go off to the pump house to have sex. While Randy is urinating, the killer wraps him around a tree, using fishing line as a noose to wrap around his penis. Linda sees the killer and drives off in the jeep. What she doesn't know is that the fishing line is tied to the jeep and, while driving at 85 mph, pulls Randy's penis off. Linda continues to drive but she doesn't know that the killer wrapped barbed wire around two trees that are between the road. The barbed wire gets caught around her face and Linda crashes into another tree.

Back at the camp, Alan is still missing and T.C. has been grounded for the rest of the summer for bullying Alan. But a wooden spear comes through the floor and stabs T.C. through the eye, with Spaz (Jake O'Conner) as a witness. Meanwhile, Ronnie and Jenny (Jaime Radow) find Frank dead in his office. Realizing they have to call the police, they begin rounding up everyone left in the camp. Meanwhile, Bella (Shahida McIntash), goes back to her cabin where she finds that the bunk above her has been replaced with spikes. The killer, who's also in the cabin, jumps from the rafters and lands on top of the top bunk, causing it to fall on Bella, impaling her with the spikes. After everyone has found T.C. and Bella dead, Sheriff Jerry arrives and tells the counselors to get all of their kids back to their cabins. After the counselors leave, Ricky Thomas (Jonathan Tiersten reprising his role) shows up, saying Sheriff Jerry called him to come to the camp. Meanwhile Karen, who's walking around feeling bad about Alan, bumps into the killer and faints.

Karen wakes up at the Rec Hall with a rope hanging from a basketball hoop tied around her neck. The killer flips a switch to raise the net, causing Karen to be lifted off the ground. Michael comes in before Karen is killed and lowers the net. After Karen tells him she thinks Alan is the killer, Michael grabs a mallet and goes after Alan. After finding Alan at his secret hideout, Michael starts beating Alan to death with the mallet (similar to Mel in the original film beating up a young Ricky). But as Michael is beating Alan, the real killer comes up behind him and grabs the mallet as the screen goes black.

Ronnie, Ricky, and Jenny find a beaten, but still alive, Alan on the ground. As Ronnie tries to get information out of Alan, Sheriff Jerry comes up behind Ronnie and Ricky, explaining that he's been waiting a long time for this. The Sheriff rips off his hair, nose, face skin, and voice assistance, revealing himself to be a she - Angela! (Felissa Rose). Jenny screams and runs into the woods. Ricky and Ronnie go to see what she screamed at and they find a nearly-dead Michael skinned alive on the ground. Ronnie screams out "NO!", with Angela laughing maniacally until she looks right at the camera with a vicious look on her face, breaking the fourth wall.

After the ending credits are over, we see what happened 3 weeks prior to the events at the beginning of the film. It shows that Angela had escaped from the Psychiatric Clinic that she'd been locked up in for 20 years and when her car got a gas leak, she pulled over and flagged down Sheriff Pete (Carlo Vogel), the real Sheriff, ultimately dropping the car on his head, stealing his clothes and becoming the new Sheriff.
