On August 31, 1989, Rick celebrated his 40th birthday by performing at "The Sea Wolf" nightclub, in Homosassa, Florida , at the request of a musician friend, Thom DeRosa, who was directing entertainment for the club. His mother, family and friends, all who happened to live in the area, attended and the local cable company aired parts of the show. He performed for nearly 2 hours, accompanied only by his acoustic guitar. He sang hits from the Firefall albums, such as "Strange Way" and surprised the crowd with a few newly written originals. Soon after this show, Rick regrouped with members of Firefall and Poco.
