Rick Schwartz is an independent producer and a former senior vice president of production at Harvey and Bob Weinstein’s Miramax Films. He was a producer of director Martin Scorsese’s films Gangs of New York, starring Leonardo DiCaprio; The Aviator, also starring DiCaprio; and The Departed, starring DiCaprio, Matt Damon, Mark Wahlberg, and Jack Nicholson; Robert Benson’s adaptation of Philip Roth’s The Human Stain, starring Nicole Kidman and Anthony Hopkins; Alejandro Amenabar’s The Others, also starring Nicole Kidman; Giuseppe Tornatore’s Malèna, starring Monica Bellucci; and Jez Butterworth’s Birthday Girl, starring Kidman.

In 2008, Schwartz announced the launch of his new film company, Overnight Productions. The first film to be released under the new banner was The Lucky Ones, directed by Neil Burger and starring Rachel McAdams, Tim Robbins, and Michael Peña. The film had its world premiere at the 2008 Toronto International Film Festival and was released in 2009 by Lionsgate Films..

In 2009, Schwartz produced the thriller "13", a remake of the award-winning French film "13 Tzameti. Directed by Gela Babluani, the film stars Jason Statham, Mickey Rourke, Ray Winstone, Alexander Saarsgard, 50 Cent and Emmanuelle Chriqui. Schwartz and Overnight financed and produced action movie "Machete" in the summer of 2009, a film directed by Robert Rodriguez and starring Robert DeNiro, Jessica Alba, Michelle Rodriguez, Don Johnson, Steven Seagal, Lindsay Lohan and Danny Trejo. The North American distribution rights to the independent feature were acquired by Fox Entertainment in January 2010 for $9 million. In 2010, Schwartz produced "Black Swan", a genre movie directed by Darin Aronofsky starring Natalie Portman, Mila Kunis, Vincent Cassel and Barbara Hershey.

Future projects include "Southbound'", to be directed by Jonathan Jakubowitz and starring Matthew McConaughey, Eva Mendes and Liv Tyler and "Goree Girls" to be produced with Jennifer Aniston who is also starring. Schwartz has been able to develop strong relationships with leading talent, resulting in partnerships with Nicole Kidman and Salma Hayek. With Nicole Kidman, he is producing The Bachelorette Party and Headhunters for 20th Century Fox and The Quality of Life Report for Warner Bros. With Salma Hayek he is producing La Banda, a Spanish language romantic comedy.
