Ringsted is a city in Ringsted municipality located in the middle of the Danish island of Zealand. The municipal population is about 31,000[1] and the city population is 20,575 (1st January 2009)[2].

Ringsted is located approximately 60 km from Copenhagen.


Modern Hotspot

Today Ringsted is a modern town, and a commercial hotspot on Zealand, located near the E20 highway, towards Copenhagen and Jutland, making Ringsted a traffical hotspot as well.

Various cultural activities, based primarily around the Ringsted Kongrescenter, attracts visitors from all of Denmark. Big names are playing here - both Danish and foreign.

In 2007 the construction of a new shopping mall was completed, adding to the status of one of Zealands hottest shopping-places outside Copenhagen. Today Ringsted is a modern mid-size town, with numerous shoppingstreets and a vibrant nightlife, as well as many small cafés.

The easy-to-reach location of the town, has made it an attractive place to live during recent years. Especially the within 35 minutes reach of Copenhagen, combined with relatively low property pricing, has seen Ringsted grow and evolve in the new millennium.

Ringsted was the site of Sjællands landsting.

In 1137, Canute Lavard was killed in Haraldsted forest, leading to outbreaks of civil war.

The town arms goes back to 1421. There have been a lot of discussion about what it portray. The traditional answer is at the top the hand of God and under that Virgin Mary with Jesus surrounded by three figures that worship her. The city officially interprets the three figures as Saint Canute Lavard, king Eric Plovpenning, and Saint Benedict of Nursia.[1]

Ringsted [1] is a city on the island of Zealand in Denmark.

Ringsted has a population of 20,575 (2009).

Get around

There is busses, a train station and lots of bicycle paths.

  • Church of Saint Benedict (Sankt Bendts Kirke). The church was built in the 12th century and contains the tomb of, among others, Queen Dagmar.


Recently the city got a rather large shopping center called "Factory Outlet", which contains some interesting boutiques. There is also a small cinema (only 30 seats) in Ringsted, and a congress center with ever changing music and entertainment. What is very interesting about Ringsted is the nature that surrounds the city.


In Ringsted there is a lot of shopping, both in the center called ""Ringstedet", in the brand new "Factory Outlet" and not least in the city itself with a lot of different shops. The city centre also have a shopping centre called "Ringsted Centret", a nice place with exciting shops, ex. a well assorted shoe shop "Rica Sko" with the newest and most fancy shoes for the whole family! Go and try it on a day with bad weather.


Lots of pizzarias and such, a few Chinese restaurants and a few family restaurants.


About a handfull of places to drink n' dance in the city.
