A rock star or rockstar is a member of a successful rock and roll band, or only an artist in the genre (the term usually implies celebrity status, or 'stardom'). The word rockstar can also have the following meanings:




  • Rock Star (TV series), a reality television program about the selection of a new lead vocalist for a different band each season
    • Rock Star: INXS, the first season of the above reality television program
    • Rock Star: Supernova, the second season of the above reality television program
    • Rock Star Supernova, a band created by this series

Rockstar Games is a development division of video game publisher Take Two Interactive. The brand is most known for titles such as the Grand Theft Auto series. It is comprised of studios that have been acquired and renamed as well as others that have been created internally. While many of the studios Take Two Interactive has acquired have been merged into the Rockstar brand, several other recent ones have retained their previous identities and have become part of the company's 2K Games division.

The Rockstar Games label was founded in 1998 by Sam Houser, Terry Donovan, Dan Houser, Jamie King and Gary Foreman.

Formerly known as neo Software Produktions which opened in 1983, it changed its name when it was aquired by Rockstar studio in 1993. Rockstar Vienna had worked on Max Payne, Grand Theft Auto 3, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and the PlayStation 2 and Xbox versions of Max Payne 2. On May 11, 2006 Take-Two closed their Rockstar Vienna office, effective immediately, due to the challenging environment facing the video game business. Rockstar Vienna veterans then formed Games That Matter on January 17, 2007
