Roger Lockyer (born 1928) is an English historian, professor, and writer. He has been a Reader in History at Royal Holloway, University of London, from which he is now retired. He specializes in research and writing on the Tudor (1471-1603) and Stuart (1603-1714) periods.


Major works

  • Tudor and Stuart Britain, by Roger Lockyer, 3rd edition, London 2004, Pearson.

The first edition of this book, covering the period from 1471-1714, was published in 1964, and a second edition appeared in 1985. This work is considered the standard reference for this period in English history, covering the full range of Tudor and Stuart rulers.

James I was the first Stuart king of England.
