Ronald "Ron" Carter Jr. (born August 31, 1956 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) is a retired American basketball player. He played collegiately for the Virginia Military Institute. He was a guard.

Carter was selected by the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2nd round (26th pick overall) of the 1978 NBA Draft. He played for the Lakers (1978-79) and Indiana Pacers (1979-80) in the NBA for 59 games.

Carter has 4 children, 2 sons, Ronald Carter III and Paul M. Carter and 2 daughters Bria A. Carter and Brooke A. Carter. Ronald Carter III was a 2-time NCAA All-American triple jumper while attended California State University, Long Beach. Paul Carter is a collegiate basketball player at the University of Minnesota. Bria and Brooke Carter are currently in middle school.
