1 1x01 "Gone in a Flash"[2] November 29, 2008 (2008-11-29)[1]

Maurice is having trouble with his annoying king, and goes missing after fighting over a camera with Julien. Maurice disappears, but since his picture is showing on the camera, Julien thinks he's stuck in the camera, which he believes is a magic gift from the "Sky Spirits", but the penguins think otherwise. The penguins find him in a junkyard and bring him home to Julien's kingdom where he decides to accept Julien over those "crazy penguins".

Note: This episode was also released on DVD on February 6, 2009 as part of the Double DVD Pack of Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa.

Absent: Marlene the otter
2 1x02 "Launchtime"[2] March 28, 2009 (2009-03-28)

The penguins build a rocket to go to the moon after being annoyed by King Julien and the other lemurs too much. However, thanks to a miscalculation made by Kowalski (who later says he "Forgot to carry the two"), they end up on top of a building with a cat named Max trying to catch birds for food. Meanwhile, Julien and the other lemurs deal with the booby traps in the penguin's habitat while trying to "borrow" their TV. When the penguins return and discover this occurring, Rico coughs up a hammer for Skipper, who declares "Operation: Hammerhead" in retaliation.

Note: This is the first appearance of Max, the stray cat that Skipper names "Moon Cat".

Absent: Alice, Marlene the otter, the chimpanzees
3 1x03 "Haunted Habitat"[2] March 28, 2009 (2009-03-28)

When Marlene screams in the night, the Penguins decide to investigate the noise. After Julien "scares" away the "ghost", it returns. The Penguins realize the "ghost" is an alligator named Roger screaming because of his fear of Marlene's snoring.

Special guest star: Richard Kind as Roger the alligator

Note: This is the first appearance of Marlene the otter and Roger the alligator.
4 1x04 "Operation: Plush & Cover"[2] March 30, 2009 (2009-03-30)
When toy Mort plush dolls at the zoo gift shop become very popular, Julien is jealous and sabotages them by dropping the entire inventory of Mort dolls into the skunk habitat so they'll have to be returned to the factory. Unfortunately, the real Mort is taken too. The penguins have to save Mort before he gets shredded. Like the penguins, Julien mails himself to the factory, because he realized it was his fault that Mort was there in the first place, and together they have to save Mort. Mort is saved but Private is left behind by accident when a plush Private doll is mistaken for the real one.
5 1x05 "Happy King Julien Day!"[2] March 31, 2009 (2009-03-31)
Julien announces that tomorrow is "King Julien Day". Maurice tries to get everyone to join in the celebrations, claiming that if they do not, Julien will "freak" on them, (meaning Julien will go insane and attack them physically or mentally). Despite a bribe with a piñata that Mort and Maurice had snatched from a rained out birthday party when no one was looking, Skipper refuses to celebrate, preferring to spend the day carrying out scheduled maintenance on the penguins' headquarters. The others go along with it only so they can get the candy from the piñata.
6 1x06 "Paternal Egg-Stinct"[2] April 1, 2009 (2009-04-01)
Marlene finds an egg in her habitat and gives it to the penguins to hatch. Julien claims that the egg was his and names him Julien Junior (J.J.). When he says that he will raise the egg to be handsome, brilliant and humble like himself, Skipper agrees to hatch the egg. Private wants to care lovingly for it, unlike the other three, who put the egg in dangerous situations, such as obstacle courses and hang-gliding. Throughout, Julien attempts to take the egg for himself. It is later shown that the egg was a duck's and that the duckling inside had taken up Skipper's traits, with "Eggy", as Private calls him, saying to his siblings, "Cute and cuddly, boys, cute and cuddly", one of Skipper's well-known lines.
7 1x07 "Assault and Batteries"[2] April 2, 2009 (2009-04-02)
Julien's noisy music annoys the animals so Skipper steals the batteries from his boom box. Julien fights with Skipper while trying to recover his batteries and both of them fall into a compound occupied by Joey, a foul-tempered kangaroo. They need to work together to escape from Joey, and eventually do. A battery is lost, leaving the lemurs without music, but Skipper gives Julien a battery from a walkie-talkie, as thanks for saving him.
8 1x08 "Penguiner Takes All"[2] April 6, 2009 (2009-04-06)

Julien starts to mock Skipper when Skipper won't allow him to play "Capture the Flag". Skipper eventually agrees to play against Julien, who wins, taking the penguins' TV as a prize. In successive rematches, Julien continues winning until he has all of the penguins' possessions. After finally realizing that the lemurs travel by the tree-tops, rather than by land, Skipper challenges the lemurs to one more rematch, for all or nothing. The penguins win by flying (using jet packs) and take all of the lemurs' possessions, including Julien's bouncing castle, Julien's crown, all of the penguins' possessions that the lemurs had taken in the previous matches, and Mort.

Absent: Alice, Marlene the otter, the chimpanzees
9 1x09 "Two Feet High and Rising"[2] April 7, 2009 (2009-04-07)

After Mort accidentally destroys Julien's floating chair because of his obsession with Julien's feet, the king proclaims that anyone who touches his feet will be banished from his "kingdom" forever. Mort finds himself waking up, touching the feet (twice, but screams and wakes up Julien on the second time) and is banished. Marlene brings Mort to the penguins to help Mort overcome his crazed obsession over King Julien's feet, making him "100% lemur foot-phobic" but, when Julien floats away in his chair, Mort has to save him by grabbing his feet. In return for this, Julien withdraws his decree and allows Mort to hug his feet only one time.

Note: This episode features the first appearances of Bada and Bing, the zoo's gorillas.
10 1x10 "Tangled in the Web"[2] April 8, 2009 (2009-04-08)

The penguins don't like the new webcams that have been installed around the zoo and rebel, but Julien plays to the cameras, because he wants to be voted most popular animal. When Private accidentally slips and falls into the fish bowl he becomes incredibly popular and is taken away to entertain his fans on stage. Julien's attempts to become more popular result in Mort being flipped onto Private's stage, destroying it. All of the cameras are knocked down, with one ending up pointing into the zoo kitchen, where Alice is dancing while using a banana as a microphone. Private is rescued but the ultimate winner is Alice, who is voted most popular because of her kitchen antics.

Absent: the chimpanzees.
11 1x11 "Crown Fools"[2] April 9, 2009 (2009-04-09)

While trying to prove he can have fun on "Fun Day", Skipper causes Julien's crown to fall into the sewer, making Julien scream for hours. After a visit from an angry Maurice, the penguins set out to retrieve the crown. Meanwhile, Marlene tries to keep Julien calm, while he mourns for his cherished, missing crown. When the penguins find the crown, Skipper has to fight a giant rat for its return. When the crown is returned to Julien, he finds a smudge on it and calls for his spare crown. Furious, Marlene makes Rico regurgitate a crowbar so that she can beat up Julien.

Absent: the chimpanzees, Alice.
12 1x12 "The Hidden"[2] April 18, 2009 (2009-04-18)
Marlene and Mort visit the new neighbors at the zoo to welcome them but the new neighbors take Mort. Meanwhile, Kowalski is having problems because he thinks out everything too much, never acting on instinct. Marlene reports Mort's disappearance to the penguins who set off to rescue Mort. They find that Julien and Maurice are also present in the new neighbors' enclosure. One by one, the animals disappear, leaving only Kowalski to rescue them all. Kowalski captures two of the hostiles, who turn out to be friendly chameleons
13 1x13 "Kingdom Come"[2] April 18, 2009 (2009-04-18)
The penguins think they hear a hyena, which turns out to be Julien, who is being taken to the hospital, leaving the lemurs without a king. Skipper convinces Maurice to be king, until Julien returns, but Maurice insists that "Julien will always be our one and only king". Maurice goes crazy after eating Julien's lychee nuts, demanding the loyalty of all of the animals in the zoo. After initially thinking this is just a joke, Skipper realizes that he is serious and formulates a plan to wrest control from Maurice after he shuts down the power and water to the zoo habitats, but get captured in the process. After fighting Maurice's two gorilla bodyguards, Bada and Bing, in an unsuccessful attempt to wrest control from Maurice, the penguins seek out Julien at the hospital. They find that Julien was sent crazy by bad nuts but a guava juice given to him counteracted the effects of the nuts. With Julien, the penguins try to regain control by spraying Maurice with an aerosolized version of the drink. Julien is knocked out before he can spray Maurice but Mort manages to spray him and save the day. After Maurice recovers, the lemurs play cards with the penguins, while Mort eats some of the bad nuts and his eyes turn red.
14 1x14 "Little Zoo Coupe"[4] April 24, 2009 (2009-04-24)
Julien is bored and when he sees the penguins driving around in their car he wants to drive it. Skipper refuses and so Julien tries to get his own car. After Maurice proves to be a poor substitute for a real car, the lemurs steal Alice's electric zoo cart, which is much bigger than the penguins' car. Julien challenges the penguins to a race around the zoo, with the winner taking both cars. Julien says the penguins’ car is "babyish," Kowalski says it is "strategically adorable," since the penguins can't win with the car in its "girly state", they customize it, making it faster and adding a flame design on its body. During the race to help the penguins win the Skipper tells Rico to 'bean up' and just as the penguins are about to cross the finish line, Phil the chimpanzee throws a banana peel onto the track, causing the penguins' car to spin out, allowing Julien to win. Julien's car also crashes but he revels in the fact that he has won and now has the penguins' car. The penguins have the last laugh as Kowalski's anti-lemur ejection seat launches Julien into the sky.
15 1x15 "All Choked Up"[4] April 24, 2009 (2009-04-24)
Alice unveils a robotic zoo guide that the penguins immediately see and process as a threat. Assuming that they will be replaced by robotic animals, Skipper tries to get Rico to regurgitate a weapon that they can use to destroy the robotic guide. Rico eventually regurgitates a time bomb that Skipper then activates. Meanwhile, Alice has noticed that Rico is regurgitating constantly and heads toward the penguin enclosure. When the penguins see Alice coming toward them, they hide everything that Rico regurgitated, with the exception of the activated bomb, which Rico then swallows. Alice forces Rico to drink a strange liquid that keeps him from regurgitating and the penguins must try to get him to regurgitate the bomb before it explodes. After numerous failed attempts, including hooking a rope to their miniature car and taking Rico for a ride around a lamppost, watching 'Carnage of the Penguins' a gory nature documentary, having Rico drink a bucket of "#12", and even forcing Mort down Rico's throat, the penguins give up and say their goodbyes. But Rico (as seen in the beginning) has a "gooey love mush sensitivity", so the penguin's farewell words and poetry make Rico vomit. Rico then finally regurgitates Mort and the bomb. Mort is uninjured but the bomb lands in the robotic zookeeper's hands, and explodes, destroying the robot.
16 1x16 "Popcorn Panic"[2] May 9, 2009 (2009-05-09)

The animals are successful at getting their favorite snack of popcorn from zoo visitors until Alice catches a boy tossing a piece of popcorn to Marlene. Alice then yells at the boy and slaps signs reading "Do not feed the animals" around the zoo, preventing the animals from obtaining the treat. The animals assemble to determine how to get popcorn on their own, but the penguins and lemurs don’t want to work together. The penguins then raid the zoo storage facility, the lemurs following behind, resulting in two bags of popcorn being taken between them. But when they get back to the zoovenir shop, they realize that they have unpopped popcorn, and Julien believes that the "popcorn eggs" need to be hatched under their warm bottoms. When Alice finds a trail of popcorn leading to the penguin habitat, Private helps Skipper hide the bag in the incinerator, and it soon pops, filling up and then bursting from the penguin habitat. Skipper and Private land in Marlene's habitat and Marlene congratulates them on their job "sort of" well done. Julien thinks the salty snack gods gifted him with it as a reward for helping to "hatch" the "eggs". At the end, lying on a popcorn pile with the other penguins, Skipper declares that he is "pretty darn sick of popcorn."

Notes: This episode was originally released direct-to-DVD on February 6, 2009 as part of the Double DVD Pack of Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa. It was aired in other countries before being aired in the U.S. on May 9, 2009. This marked as Marlene's "real" first appearance.
17 1x17 "Go Fish"[5] May 30, 2009 (2009-05-30)
The penguins perform and display their cuteness to zoo visitors in order to prompt them to feed them with fish purchased from Alice. Julien observes this from his habitat, stating his resentment of the fish odor to the other lemurs. When the zoo visitors feed the penguins, the penguins soon notice that they are not being fed their regular fish, but rather fish-shaped cake imitations. While Julien revels in not having to smell the fish, the penguins find the new cakes to be terrible in taste and hope that the substitution is just a one-time trial. When they are fed the fish cakes the next day, however, they assemble to plan a mission to obtain real fish on their own from a fish delivery truck as it travels down the road, which includes using Pinky the flamingo for aerial support. When Julien observes the penguins preparing for their mission, he tells the other lemurs that the real fish cannot be allowed back into his kingdom. The penguins put their plan into action and obtain several crates of fish from the delivery truck, but when they return to the zoo, Julien tells them that he secretly switched the crates of fish with crates of the fish cakes. Julien and Skipper then engage in a series of attempts to one-up each other in terms of who last switched the crates around. But when both sets of crates are opened in an attempt to settle the disagreement, both contain the fish cakes. Kowalski then says that he has a theory on where the real fish ended up, and it is revealed that Pinky had taken them.
18 1x18 "Miracle On Ice"[5] May 30, 2009 (2009-05-30)
The cold weather freezes the penguins’ habitat’s ice, so they prepare to play a hockey game against each other. They are then challenged by a group of rats (the same rats featured in Crown Fools) to play against them, since the rats cannot go back into their sewer home because the pipes burst. Having been led to believe that the rats were not experienced in the game of hockey, the penguins agree to the game, agreeing also that the ice would then belong to the winner. The rats, however, intended to lead the penguins to believe that they were not good hockey players, but really are and win the hockey game, claiming the penguins’ ice. After the loss, the penguins begin practicing their skills on the lemurs' ice, but Julien won't let them practice unless he is on the team. They recruit him as a cheerleader, as well as Maurice and Mort. After improving their skills, the penguins replay the rats, and start out with the upper hand, but the rats then start to play rough. They send Private flying into the porcupine's exhibit, taking him out of the game. He is replaced by Maurice, who plays horribly. The leader rat body slams Kowalski, who begins to speak gibberish from pain, taking him out of the game. He is replaced by Mort, who is even worse than Maurice. Then, leader rat whacks Skipper with the hockey stick that he is using, taking Skipper out of the game. Finally, Julien goes into the game. When one of the rats skates over his foot, he becomes extremely enraged because someone has touched the royal feet, and starts whacking pucks everywhere until the rats surrender. The penguins then cheer for Julien, the hero of the game.
19 1x19 "Needle Point"[6] June 6, 2009 (2009-06-06)

Skipper runs from the zoo veterinarian in order to avoid getting a shot. The penguins try to force him to do it, but Skipper seems to escape and avoid all they throw at him. Private rips off Skipper's hospital ankle bracelet by accident. When the penguins give in, Private has an idea. Private says that he could pretend to be Skipper and get it all over with, and he wants to take the risk of getting another shot. Private waddles over to Alice, who is searching for Skipper, with Skipper's hospital ankle bracelet on, and she takes him to the veterinarian. When the chimps inform Skipper a second shot could make Private become sick, or worse, he goes back to the veterinarian's office, and tells Private that he'll take the shot. He is given the shot and screams in pain but is proud about it afterwards. At the end, Alice tells the penguins they have an appointment with the dentist, and shows Kowalski has an extreme fear of the dentist. Private states, "But we don't have teeth."

Absent: The chimpanzees, Marlene the otter, Mort and Maurice

Note: Julien is shown once but doesn't have any lines.
20 1x20 "Eclipsed"[6] June 6, 2009 (2009-06-06)

Mason and Phil are fed up with the lemurs annoying them. They find out a total eclipse is coming and tricked Julien by telling him the "sky spirits" are angry at him just as the moon covers the sun. Julien promises to be nice to everyone just as the total eclipse ends. The penguins are then annoyed with Julien being nice. They then figure out Mason and Phil tricked Julien. Skipper distracts Julien while Kowalski, Rico and Private make a laser that shoots lightning pointed to the sky and hooked to the bell on top of the entrance building. They make the time on the clock move faster making the bell ring and shooting lightning in the sky. The lightning strikes Skipper who survived it (but it was aimed to shoot Julien so he would be his normal self) and Julien decides to be himself anyway. The episode ends with Julien, Maurice and Mort annoying the chimps once again.

Note: This is the first mention of Dr. Blowhole.
21 1x21 "Mort Unbound"[7] June 26, 2009 (2009-06-26)
Mort quadruples in size after an accident with one of Kowalski's inventions, a super-ray designed to enhance fish. After Kowalski invented it, Julien was throwing fruit away, and threw a mango into the gorilla habitat. Mort gets it, but gets bounced out, into the penguins' HQ, right smack in the beam of the super-ray, when it was started and quadruples in size and beats the gorillas and gets the mango and other fruits. After finally realizing that Mort is super strong, Julien uses him to steal food from the other animals, like stealing an elephant's peanuts and Joey's (from "Assault and Batteries") hay for Julien's artwork. When Mort wants to eat a banana that had been among the stolen loot, Julien denies him access to it. After being fed up with constantly being mistreated, Mort uses his new-found strength to take advantage of Julien by eating as much loot as he wants and hugging Julien's feet. Kowalski prepares a medicinal antidote for Mort to reverse the effects of the super-ray, but Mort refuses to take it. When Mort uses Julien as a bat and Private as a ball to get rid of him when he tries to give Mort the medicine, Private becomes the second accident with the super-ray when he lands on it. A large, muscular Private then is able to force Mort to take the medicine and return to normal. Julien confronts Mort with a lesson, but Maurice said that Julien used Mort to bully the zoo animals. Julien doesn't want to admit it, but does when Private was about to sit on him. However, when it is Private's turn to take the medicine, he refuses it, as he enjoyed being big. Then, Rico says, "Oh boy."
22 1x22 "Roomies"[7] June 26, 2009 (2009-06-26)

Marlene is getting a new roommate. Before her roommate arrives, she dances with Skipper with excitement, but Skipper is paranoid that Marlene's roommate may be a spy, possibly with the intent of stealing Kowalski's newest invention, a device whose function is not yet known. The penguins point out to Marlene that the new arrival weighs at least 1,500 pounds, enormously heavier than she is, and suggest that multitudes of otters might be on the way. The new roommate turns out to be a walrus named Rhonda, who is sloppy, has bad manners, bullies Marlene and uses her as a live tissue. She also farts in the water constantly as well as in Marlene's home. After faking her approval to the penguins several times, Marlene finally asks them to ship her somewhere else. But when she learns that a labeling error resulted in Rhonda being headed for a polar bear reserve in Alaska, her guilty conscience causes her to save the annoying roommate. Marlene ends up using Kowalski's invention, which turns out to be a plasma cutter, to free the crate at the dock where Rhonda is being shipped out. Once the crate gets back to the zoo, Marlene and the penguins arrange for Rhonda to be transferred to the Hoboken Aquarium. Rhonda ends up being a spy after all, and she steals Kowalski’s plasma cutter and discusses it with Dr. Blowhole, Skipper's unseen dolphin arch-enemy, en route to a new aquarium.

Note: It's revealed that Dr. Blowhole is in fact real and Skipper was not joking in "Eclipsed" when he said that he had dolphin foe.
23 1x23 "Misfortune Cookie"[7] August 1, 2009 (2009-08-01)

The zoo animals order Chinese food. All of the penguins read their fortune cookies and are happy with the results. However, Rico's fortune reads "You will soon meet a foul end". While Rico and the penguins do not believe in curses, Julien tries to make them believe by tricking Rico into believing that he is cursed to the point where Rico hides in a pillow fortress. Skipper then confronts Julien and they agree to make Rico think that he is not cursed by going through with an ancient lemur ceremony. After a duck lands on Rico at the end of the ritual, Private reveals the meaning of the fortune: the duck's bottom is a fowl end.

Note:Rico is revealed to be superstitious.
24 1x24 "Lemur See, Lemur Do"[7] August 1, 2009 (2009-08-01)
A lemur robot called the LEM-R (an acronym for "life-emulating robot") is sent to the lemur habitat so it can learn from Julien before it heads to Mars, which makes Mort jealous. The penguins want to teach the robot skills it really needs for its mission to Mars so they kidnap it, but during training, it accidentally explodes, making Julien depressed and Mort happy. (Maurice tries to get Mort to cuddle Julien's feet) Filled with remorse, the penguins rebuild it and the robot is sent to Mars. However, upon arriving on Mars, the robot is eaten by a martian making Mort excited, while Skipper points out a lemur shouldn't have been sent to do a penguin's job.
25 1x25 "Roger Dodger"[7] August 17, 2009 (2009-08-17)

Roger the alligator (whom the penguins had previously met in the episode "Haunted Habitat") comes up to the penguins’ HQ when The Rat King and his minions invade Roger’s home and throw him out. Roger tells the penguins that he had tried being nice to the rats, including making muffins for them, but his efforts were not successful and that he is not comfortable with being aggressive to get his home back. Soon after Roger tries again to be nice to the rats and again gets beaten up by them, the penguins decide to help Roger confront the rats. When training Roger fails to be a viable option, Kowalski rigs up a contraption with a blender to switch Roger and Rico’s brains (not a physical transfer, but one done through the aid of the contraption) so that Rico, inside Roger’s body, could take care of the rats. Unfortunately, after defeating the rats, "Rico" begins to go on a rampage, tearing apart the zoo and the vicinity thereof. (Kowalski attributes this to the differential between an alligator’s cold blood and a penguin’s warm blood.) The penguins and "Roger" then try to stop "Rico," who is eventually brought down when "Roger" sings, in a Jack Haley-style singing voice. At the end of the episode, once Roger and Rico had assumed their proper bodies again, Roger conducts the penguins in singing a lullaby.

Absent: The chimpanzees, the lemurs, Alice
26 1x26 "Skorca!"[7] August 17, 2009 (2009-08-17)

While alone on aerial recon duty one night, Private sees a flying orca. He alerts all of the zoo animals to the presence of the predator, which Julien dubs a "skorca", a contraction of "sky orca". While the penguins set off to track down the skorca, Julien engages the services of Joey the kangaroo to eliminate the threat. After discovering that Private consumed an entire box of "Winkys" during his patrol the penguins believe the skorca sighting was a hallucination resulting from a sugar high. They change their minds when they see the skorca, which is actually just a large parade balloon. During a fight with Joey for the privilege of destroying the skorca, when Private popped the balloon it flew away and took Private with it. Believing he is dead, the penguins held a memorial service for Private but he returns during the service with part of the skorca and is treated as a hero.

Note: Mort doesn't have any lines in this episode.
27 1x27 "Otter Gone Wild"[7] August 18, 2009 (2009-08-18)

After cleaning their habitat in record time, the penguins head out to obtain snow cones as a reward. They invite Marlene who initially accepts but panics after finding out that the snow cone stand is outside the zoo, as she was born in captivity. However, when Skipper reassures her that she’ll be safe with the penguins being with her the whole time, Marlene agrees to go. Julien decides to join the group without an invitation. Once outside the zoo, Marlene is overwhelmed by the outside world and goes crazy. She kidnaps Julien and becomes amorous with him. The penguins eventually rescue Julien and trap Marlene in a cage before getting their snow cones and returning to the zoo where Marlene returns to normal.

Absent: The chimpanzees, Mort, Maurice, Alice

Note: Marlene is revealed to have been born in captivity.
28 1x28 "Cat's Cradle"[7] August 19, 2009 (2009-08-19)

The penguins try to hide their cat friend, Max (who had appeared in the "Launchtime" episode), from an animal control officer, Officer X. After running away from the animal control officer, Max asks the penguins to help him hide. The penguins hide him in Julien's bounce house, but he is found shortly after. Then they used Max's scent in Joey's habitat so he could take out X, but X took Joey out. When the penguins run out of ideas, Phil and Mason suggest that Max pretend to be a red Rhodesian slasher, an "ultra-rare, incredibly vicious wildcat," which is coming to the zoo. They agree, and paint Max red. When Officer X comes, he thinks Max is the red Rhodesian slasher. But after celebrating, Max accidentally rubs some of the paint off, which Officer X sees. He is saved from capture by Alice, who instead puts him in a cage with a female red Rhodesian slasher, hoping that the two will mate. After getting beaten up by the female, Max begs the penguins to help him, so the penguins create a diversion for Officer X by using Mort to resemble a rabid Chihuahua. But when Max gets out of the cage, X goes after him. However, when he catches the cat, it turns out to be the female slasher instead, which Rico had painted to resemble Max. After the female slasher beats up X, Mort then sets off all of the traps outside of the zoo so Max can escape.

Special guest stars: Wayne Knight as Max the Cat and Cedric Yarbrough as Officer X

Absent: Marlene the otter, Maurice (mentioned)
29 1x29 "Monkey Love"[7] August 20, 2009 (2009-08-20)
A delivery truck brings a female chimpanzee named Lulu from the Hoboken Zoo to the chimpanzee habitat while her habitat is being fixed. Thus, she will only be staying there for a few days. While Phil and Mason are greeting her, Phil falls in love with her and asks Mason (in sign language) to help him win her heart. Since Mason does not know how to help, they go to Marlene for advice, which she finds exciting, and she suggests trying "candles, moonlight, … Spanish guitar … [and] a bouquet of oysters on half-shells arranged to spell out her name." When Mason says, "I'm not sure that's how to capture a chimp's heart," the penguins suddenly burst in at the word "capture." Marlene argues that this is "her mission," but Kowalski explains that the use of the word "capture" automatically makes it a penguin mission. The penguins decide that they need the help of a man on the inside, so Mason is chosen to speak to Lulu for Phil. However, this backfires, with Lulu thinking it was Mason that wanted to go out with her and not Phil. The penguins then come up with a new plan to dress up as desperados so that Phil can pretend to fight them and beat them. (Kowalski, however, dresses up as a pirate by mistake.) When this happens, Lulu reveals that she is actually tough and beats up the penguins herself. The penguins eventually use a crate of bananas to drop on Lulu with Phil to push her out of the way as another attempt at matchmaking, but this backfires as well, with the rope not cutting late due to Kowalski calculating the scenario with cotton rope and using nylon rope instead. Phil pushes Lulu out of the way and she gets angry with him. Next, they used Love Potion Number 37, but after telling them that there's flamingo sweat and garlic in there, Pinky and the other flamingos chased Phil to be preened after he puts it on. Then Julien comes up with Phil doing roller disco so that Lulu would join him. She does, but then is accidentally flung into heavy objects and being beaten by dogs after Julien accidentally said "dogs" but not "doves". She then locks herself in her crate. Phil then decides to just speak his true feelings to her via sign language, which Lulu understands most of, but doesn't get the last part, which Mason then translates for her. Phil and Lulu then fall in love and walk away together.
30 1x30 "Tagged"[7] August 21, 2009 (2009-08-21)
The climate in the zoo is very cold and King Julien, Marlene, and the other animals in the zoo are somewhat having problems with the weather. Skipper and the other penguins have heat lamps on in the fashion of tanning beds. They are relaxing and enjoying by playing volleyball. Their quiet day is then interrupted when Alice brings in a doctor of science who wants to study the penguins. The penguins then turn off their heat lamps and put away everything they have, including the heat lamps and volleyball net. Alice allows the doctor to study penguins, but is strangely hit by the penguins' volleyball. The doctor sits down and Skipper starts to calm down considering that he can not last long because of the weather, but the scientist turns on a heat lamp. Skipper can't take the elements and instructs the penguins to set up fake copies of themselves while they head out to change everything. Skipper increases the steam output of the furnace which also goes to Marlene, Julien and every other animal's habitat. They head back, but Skipper is spotted by Alice and fail the operation before a cooling line is installed. Alice cages the penguins and puts radio-controls on them. The penguins decide they have to face the doctor until he leaves by engaging in strange poses of mating, much to their dislike. Skipper realizes the zoo will blow up in two hours, but he is still radio-tagged. He eventually decides to get some help. He grabs a slingshot and fires a radio to the lemurs' habitat. While Julien, Maurice, and Mort are relaxing, they retrieve the radio and Skipper starts to give Julien instructions on how to save the zoo. Kowalski then tells Julien that they have to press a scarlet button, but all the buttons turn out to be red. Mort then touches one, but, it turns out, the lemurs hooked it up to the air conditioning unit by mistake. The furnace begins to explode and traps with fire are set up. Julien finally decides to get through the traps and saves the zoo after getting blown out of their plastic volcano. The animals celebrate over Julien's victory while the doctor returns and shows his audience his findings, which shows the penguins engaging in various high-fives.
31 1x31 "What Goes Around"[7] September 19, 2009 (2009-09-19)

At closing time, the penguins hear a little girl crying that she has lost her doll, Private goofingly thinking Skipper was crying. Skipper quickly informs Private that is not him. The penguins try to throw it to her, but this backfires when the doll hits the girl and bounces into the sewer, making the girl cry. After Alice is asked to retrieve the doll, she finds the job incredibly annoying, and does nothing except file the missing toy report after the girl and her mother leave Alice’s office. The penguins then decide to take up the mission themselves, with the idea of using Rico's doll as look-alike, which makes Rico upset. After delivering Rico's disguised doll to the girl's home, security cameras spot the penguins and animal control is called. After the penguins fall into a trap, Officer X (whom the penguins met in "Cat's Cradle") tries to take them with him, but after using Rico to regurgitate dynamite, the penguins escape to the sewer. However, Officer X's high-tech van has laser-drilling capabilities, allowing him to break into the sewer. Kowalski soon falls in love with the van, and is saddened when Skipper states that they have to destroy it. After X gains the upper hand and lassos them, the penguins try to cause a sewage pipe to spray sewage on X. While the pipe is initially clogged with the doll that the girl had originally lost, sewage soon comes out and gets all over X. Skipper then gives the doll to Rico. After returning home with Rico wooing the doll, the penguins watch a news report showing X being arrested on TV for a "vandalism spree over several city blocks."

Note: The penguins are the only zoo animals who appear in this episode, but the chimps were mentioned.
32 1x32 "Mask of the Raccoon"[7] September 19, 2009 (2009-09-19)

At night, King Julien is preparing to turn on his boom box and asks Maurice to turn it on, but it shown to eventually be stolen. More items around the zoo get stolen, including Joey's shrub and Bada and Bing's tire swing. The animals meet up at the shop and gather up all of their complaints, including a rhino, Mason and Phil, and Marlene. King Julien questions if they are going to finish the thief, but Skipper tells him that instead they will do recon, but Rico dashes in and tells Skipper that their TV is stolen. They then head out and the thief is revealed to be a raccoon with a green hat, looking like Robin Hood, and goes by The Archer. He spots a noodle box, but Skipper surprises and kicks The Archer. The Archer fires an arrow and escapes, which causes the penguins to go on a wild chase around the zoo. After dashing across all the habitats, Skipper catches up with The Archer and they engage into a sword fight with plastic knives. The Archer trips Skipper and holds him at knifepoint, but Skipper is eventually the victor. They take The Archer back to their base and confront him, but The Archer explains that he is actually a giver. They give him all the items around the zoo. The next morning, Private decides to give The Archer a gift, his favorite butterscotch lollipop. They head out and meet up with a clueless squirrel, and after a conversation, they figure out that The Archer is actually a con man and his name is actually Archie. They chase him down again, but Private throws his lollipop and trips The Archer, and after a close stand-off, Rico tortures him with a strange attack. They then force The Archer to be a true hero.

Special guest stars: Rob Paulson as Archie and Fred Stoller as Fred the squirrel
33 1x33 "Out of the Groove"[7] October 12, 2009 (2009-10-12)
While enjoying hobby day on Saturday, Julien comes by and tells them that his groove is gone. He tells about what happened when dancing, Darla and her baboon gals "stole" his peoples, so Julien and the lemurs throw skunks into the habitat. Furious with King Julien skunk-bombing them, the baboons steal his groove, using so-called "magic" so he can't dance anymore, and put it in a jar. Desperate for help, Julien seeks the assistance of the penguins to get his groove back. But when fighting over the jar that contains his groove, it breaks and enters Skipper's body, and he starts dancing. The baboons will only help if King Julien apologizes, but given his stubbornness he still refuses to apologize. Skipper has to make Julien apologize by dancing all over him, surprising the rest of the penguins and lemurs speechless to the point where Private says that he wants to cry (this is significant since, penguins don't cry) because Skipper's dancing is so perfect, yet strange. King Julien finally lowers his dignity and apologizes, and his groove is then returned. Meanwhile, Skipper wonders what made his tail feathers shake in the first place. Private says it's magic; Kowalski says there's no such thing. But after hearing Private's logical answer, that Skipper has a dancer deep inside of him, Skipper turns away and exclaims that "Magic's real! Case closed!"
34 1x34 "Jungle Law"[7] October 12, 2009 (2009-10-12)
The penguins observe the other animals, who have lost their power due to a major blackout. They call a zoo meeting and discuss their plan of action to get the zoo through this blackout, but King Julien takes over, saying that "the zoo is now a jungle" and that he is its king. The animals go with the plan and Skipper vows that it will end very badly; because if it does fail, he will have 4 words for him, "I told you so." (Julien thought it was "I love King Julien".) Within three minutes, all havoc breaks loose, and the zoo animals are going wild in a near-post-apocalyptic zoo, much like in "Lord of the Flies." The penguins team up with Maurice and Marlene (the only sane ones left) to restore peace and succeed. However, the zoo animals are still mad at Julien. They propose to fling him out of the zoo with a catapult. Skipper then goes to Julien to say "I told you so," but ends up saving him from banishment by admitting that his "Jungle Law" was a brilliant plan. At this point, the lights come on and Julien declares that he is "smarter than any penguin," leading the penguins to launch a watermelon at his head.
35 1x35 "I Was a Penguin Zombie"[7] October 24, 2009 (2009-10-24)
While fishing for hot dog items for their fish, Skipper severely breaks his left flipper in a fall from a tree while trying to catch the elusive polish sauerkraut. He tries to convince the others that he is OK, saying that he is merely double-jointed. They seem to believe him for a bit. Alice eventually finds Skipper in the penguin habitat and brings him to the zoo veterinarian, who applies a strong muscle-relaxing cream to his broken flipper and bandages it up before caging him for observation. After the doctor leaves, a still-groggy Skipper begins to escape the vet’s office, and a medical horror movie on TV is accidentally turned on in the process. The other penguins hear the movie, and take its dialogue as that of real doctors and believe that Skipper died of an infection. While still trying to escape, Skipper accidentally gets wrapped in gauze material, and when he gets out, pursues the others, who believe that that he is a zombie. After first running, the others decide to try to capture Skipper and perform painful tests on him to reverse the zombie state. Eventually, while on the ledge of a top of a building, Skipper manages to tell the others to "stop," but all four soon fall from the roof, breaking their flippers.
36 1x36 "Sting Operation"[6] October 24, 2009 (2009-10-24)
On the platform in their habitat, the penguins try to figure out what Skipper describes as "an unauthorized gray lump" hanging by the clock tower at the zoo entrance is. Kowalski pokes it with a stick, and a hornet with a Russian accent comes out, saying "I sting your face." A mass of hornets soon come out and sting the penguins as they try to flee. After another failed attempt at getting the hornets to leave and discussing how to not feel the pain of stings, Mort enters the HQ and falls on his head, unaffected by the pain. The penguins try to have Mort remove the hornet nest, but he doesn’t understand the job. One of Kowalski’s inventions is then used to make Private stupid so he can remove the nest, but the device soon renders all four stupid. After a little frolicking, the penguins slap, crush, and trap some of the hornets in soap bubbles, but soon return to their normal selves when Mort crushes the cardboard box that the penguins’ normal brain thoughts were stored in. Mort then, to try to obtain honey for Julien, rips apart the hornet nest, which causes the hornets to flee the zoo.
37 1x37 "All King, No Kingdom"[7] November 14, 2009 (2009-11-14)
Maurice and Mort accidentally broke Julien's throne. Julien then splits their habitat in half, with Mort and Maurice's side being much smaller than his own. Maurice and Mort throw a huge party and everyone is invited except Julien which makes him jealous. Julien calls for help from the penguins, who do help, but it does not seem to attract anyone including Maurice and Mort. The guests in Julien's guest list are 3 stuffed animals (named Janice, Emil, and Rosalita), Maurice, and Mort. However, because of the lack of his true friends (Maurice and Mort), Julien starts to go crazy. The penguins then get Maurice to see Julien and the state he is in, and ask him to help. Maurice reveals that he was just trying to teach Julien a lesson, and he and Mort eventually join Julien's party.
38 1x38 "Untouchable"[7] November 14, 2009 (2009-11-14)

The episode starts with Alice bringing in a new addition to the zoo. The new animal turns out to be a frog, named Barry. At first, all the others think he is cute when he says he gets what he wants. When he just lays a finger on Rico's foot, he is automatically poisoned and stunned, and the penguins find out that he is a poison dart frog. The penguins try to get rid of Barry, but Kowalski and Skipper soon get poisoned too. Private has an idea: He creates a robot suit, and tells Barry that he could touch him, but Barry cannot touch Private. Private scares him, but they soon end up hugging. Skipper, Kowalski, and Rico wake up recovered from the poison and find the frog in the penguin's HQ playing Checkers with Private (who is still in the robot suit). Skipper then sends himself, Rico and Kowalski back to bed believing that they are having hallucinations.

Special guest star: Kevin McDonald as Barry the frog
39 1x39 "Over Phil"[7] November 27, 2009 (2009-11-27)
Mason becomes fed up with Phil's sloppy actions and leaves the chimp habitat. Private hears their fight and allows Mason to come to the penguin habitat for a visit. Mason just happens to visit as the penguins are cleaning up and (because he is a clean freak) decides he wants to move in with the penguins. Mason then learns that because the penguins are so clean, he has nothing for himself to clean up, and because of this, Mason starts to make his own messes for himself to clean up. Concerned and annoyed by this, Skipper and the rest of the penguins go to the chimp habitat, where Phil is apparently throwing a party with the gorillas and Joey. The habitat gets so messy that the penguins have to rescue the gorillas and Joey but can't find Phil. Mason then finds Phil's hand in the garbage and gets him out. The two chimps finally become friends again. After everything is back to normal, Private joined the chimps for tea and Phil has become quite a gentleman...more or less.
40 1x40 "Miss Understanding"[7] November 27, 2009 (2009-11-27)
After a school kid shares various facts about penguins, much to Alice's distress, he then comments that the only way to tell the males and females apart are DNA test. Alice comments that there are three males and a female. After Kowalski builds a DNA tester, it claims that Rico, Private, and Kowalski are all males and Skipper is the girl. Kowalski attempts to hide the results, but Skipper pushes him out of the way to look and is very shocked. They perform another test to see if he is a girl or not. Blindfolded, Skipper must put a thumbtack on one of two sides of a canvas. The monster truck side is shown, but it is then revealed that he pinned the pink unicorn instead. Skipper starts going through five stages of depression, but then decides to get back to work. The penguins go on dangerous missions, but Skipper acts very ladylike and causes them to fail. King Julien tries to make his blender work, but then the wires go out of control and nearly kill King Julien and the other lemurs. Skipper then leaves the penguin's habitat to go visit Marlene and see what it's like being a girl. Marlene becomes very annoyed because Skipper keeps asking her to demonstrate stereotypically female know-how. Marlene takes Skipper to see the lemurs and save them from the wires. Then Rico, Kowalski, and Private show up to save the lemurs, but end up getting stuck too. Skipper, believing that he is a girl, decides that the mission is not ladylike enough. Eventually, Skipper decides to take off his pink bow and makes an impromptu whip/dance ribbon. After that, the penguins take Skipper to do the test again and find a broken fuse. After they replace the fuse, the machine draws a vertical line through the minus sign, completing the plus mark and proving that Skipper is a boy. Marlene then becomes sad, hoping Skipper could be her friend. Skipper than hugs Marlene saying that Alice doesn’t know what she's talking about because she's a mammal. Marlene becomes offended by this after Skipper says that they're all morons, and pushes Skipper. Private tries to hold Marlene back and says, "We'll work on that one tomorrow."
41 1x41 "An Elephant Never Forgets"[8] December 5, 2009 (2009-12-05)
Burt the elephant wanted the penguins to help him break out of the zoo. They made up a plan to distract Alice. They disguise Burt as an ice cream truck. But the lemurs thought he was a real ice cream truck. Burt gets mad and breaks open the gates. Then, they find papers on the wall behind a stack of hay. Many years ago, a kid (who the zoo animals at the time referred to as "Kid Kazoo") liked to scare the animals with his kazoo. Burt couldn't take it anymore. There was a picture of the kid grown up. So Burt lies about the reasons about leaving the zoo. The penguins find Burt in a building. Burt is trying to crush Kid Kazoo. Burt actually wanted to give him his old kazoo back. Then, the penguins disguise Burt as an art museum, which is actually a piece of art that was on the wall of Kid Kazoo's apartment with squiggles painted on it, so they can return Burt to the zoo.
42 1x42 "Otter Things Have Happened"[8] December 5, 2009 (2009-12-05)
Kowalski wanted to test his new invention, the Luv-u-Lator. They needed a guinea pig but Marlene was the closest species. Marlene refuses to tell them who her date is. They find out her date lives in the park. They search for him and they find a box with Fred the Squirrel looking in there. The penguins thought Kowalski's invention was wrong. Marlene actually likes him and she hopes he can play the Spanish guitar. Julien is jealous because he sees Fred walking with Marlene and he thinks Marlene is his girlfriend. Julien tries to settle this by fighting with Fred in the reptile house with sticks. Fred did not know what to do. Julien repeatedly hit himself. Fred accidentally hits Julien with his stick. Marlene and the penguins find Fred and see him fighting with Julien. Marlene then gets mad at Julien and walks away with Fred. Later, Marlene finds out that Fred is stupid and can't play the Spanish guitar. So, she breaks up with him. Fred goes back home and sees Antonio, a muscular, male otter, walking through the bushes. Then, the episode ends with Antonio playing his Spanish guitar. Antonio was Marlene's real date.
43 1x43 "Zoo Tube"[2] January 2, 2010 (2010-01-02)

After waiting alone for visitors to come to the zoo, Skipper finds the other penguins watching the "Dumb Animal Channel" Rico discovered on TV. Skipper takes a peak at it, and he soon gets addicted, too. Marlene appears and tells the penguins that the zoo is closing forever. The five animals investigate and find plans to what is happening. They tell all the zoo animals that if there are no more guests, they will be shipped out all over the world. Mason pulls out a camera he took from the lost and found and suggests they make a commercial promoting the zoo to be broadcast all over New York City. The penguins go and search for equipment they needed to broadcast. Meanwhile, Julien steals the position of director from Mason. Julien attempts to tell the animals to do exciting things, but fails. When Skipper gets back, they start broadcasting. But Julien wants the signal to be broadcast more than the 45-mile radius it will travel, so he increases the power. The satellite gets destroyed and all the animals think all hope of saving the zoo is lost. But just as the penguins are about to destroy their HQ in order to protect their secrets, Alice opens the gates and visitors enter. It is revealed that the visitors were also addicted to the Dumb Animal Channel, and since the satellite carrying the show had been destroyed, decided to return to the zoo to see real animals.

Notes: The title of this episode is a spoof of YouTube (a video sharing website). There is also a brief reference to Alex the lion and Nana from the Madagascar films.
44 1x44 "Snakehead!"[2] January 2, 2010 (2010-01-02)

"Mother Duck" and her ducklings discover a monstrous snakehead fish living in their pond. They ask for the penguins’ help getting rid of the deadly fish, which the penguins try to accomplish by building a submarine. Everyone except Skipper is afraid of the fish, so when the submarine gets stuck in an old tire, Skipper goes outside to untangle it and is swallowed by the giant fish in the process. The remaining penguins, under Kowalski’s leadership, forge ahead to avenge Skipper. At the end, the others see that Skipper is alive in the mouth of the fish and toss him a bottle of soda that had been shaken up earlier when Julien tried christening the submarine. It causes the fish to blow up, and it is soon served as sushi by the penguins.

Note: This is the second appearance of Eggy the duckling.
45 1x45 "Jiggles"[2] January 16, 2010 (2010-01-16)
Kowalski creates a living cube of green gelatinous matter after a night of working in his lab, which soon develops a taste for fruit and a hatred of fish. When the cube, which Kowalski names "Jiggles," begins to increase in size, the other penguins begin to get concerned, but Kowalski continues trying to bond with the material, including after it breaks out of the HQ. A mission by the penguins to then recapture Jiggles ultimately fails when Julien and Kowalski wind up being consumed by it, but they are later expelled from it when Julien reaches down Kowalski’s throat to retrieve a fish Kowalski had eaten for lunch to provoke the monstrous mass to release them. In the end, Kowalski uses his shrink ray to reduce Jiggles, but unbeknownst to the others, he keeps the miniaturized version.
46 1x46 "The Falcon and the Snow Job"[9] February 6, 2010 (2010-02-06)
When a beautiful female falcon lands in the zoo with a broken wing, Skipper falls for her and insists she stay to recover at the zoo until she can fly again. The falcon, named Kitka, thinks Skipper is handsome and brave, so she agrees to not eat any of the zoo animals. Skipper and Kitka are then shown going on a date and they fall in love. Back in the penguins' HQ, the other penguins are afraid that Skipper's relationship with Kitka will end up with them and other animals being eaten. Suddenly, when a falcon screech is heard outside, the penguins go to the lemur habitat, where Maurice informs them that Julien had been taken by a falcon that had flown into Midtown, where Kitka lives. Skipper is positive that Kitka wasn’t to blame and he will do anything to clear her name. The penguins then travel to the building that Kitka's nest is on, and climb up the side of it to find that a male falcon had taken Julien and that Kitka had tried to save him. Skipper then fights off the male falcon, with Julien doing a bad running commentary for the worried Kitka. After Skipper fights him off, he tries to kiss Kitka, only to interrupted by Julien’s annoying commentary. After Skipper tells the others that he hopes they learned a lesson about not judging others, Kitka states that she only ate one squirrel that wasn’t even living in the zoo, then preceding to cough-up Fred. On that note, Skipper informs Kitka "I think we should see other people."
47 1x47 "The Penguin Stays in the Picture"[9] February 6, 2010 (2010-02-06)
Every year, Private is chosen as the cover animal for the zoo brochure, but this year the photographer discovers the adorable Mort. Bada and Bing offer to, ahem, get Mort out of the picture. And when Mort actually does disappear, Private is torn between his desire to be the zoo cover model and his good heart, especially when he imagines Mort in the form of a ghost trying to haunt him.
48 1x48 "Dr. Blowhole's Revenge"[3][10] February 15, 2010 (2010-02-15)

Bent on an agenda to take over the world, the penguins' mad dolphin nemesis, Dr. Blowhole, kidnaps King Julien in an effort to lure the flightless force into a trap so that he can annihilate them once and for all. It’s up to the penguins to spring the trap before Blowhole’s plan to flood the Earth comes to fruition.

Note: This aired as a 30-minute special episode and featured the first appearance of Dr. Blowhole, who was voiced by Neil Patrick Harris

49 2x01 "The Red Squirrel"[11] March 13, 2010 (2010-03-13)
Skipper's idol, Rockgut, decides to let them help him capture his arch-enemy, The Red Squirrel. Rockgut imprisons Mort, King Julien and Maurice, Burt, Marlene, and the chimps (because of a tail like the squirrel's, lying, liking nuts like the squirrel, liking drawings of red squirrels, and because they "read" a good book, respectively). It's then up to Private to set things right. He enlists Fred the Squirrel to impersonate The Red Squirrel. The others penguins capture "The Red Squirrel" in a box, and when he thinks they aren't looking, Private lets Fred go and thanks him for his help, but the Penguins ARE looking and question Private. After Rockgut accuses Private of being The Red Squirrel in a costume, Kowalski realizes it and points out that it's nonsense, followed by Rockgut accusing Kowalski. The others finally come to their senses. Rico coughs up a payphone, which Skipper pretends to answer, telling Rockgut that HQ called, informing him that The Red Squirrel he had been chasing was a decoy and that the real one was in "Grr...frr... jickle... stan..." tricking Rockgut into leaving. Private says he feels bad for Rockgut because he wasted 47 years looking for an enemy that probably doesn't even exist. But after they leave, it is revealed that The Red Squirrel is hiding in a bush watching with a periscope.
50 2x02 "It's About Time"[11] March 13, 2010 (2010-03-13)
Kowalski is excited about the near completion of his new time machine. But what happens when his future self tries to tell Private to stop him from building it? Then, another future Kowalski visits Skipper and orders him to let Kowalski build it. This causes terrible stuff to happen. Later the universe is about to collapse completely. Kowalski goes back in time to convince Private that the time machine should not be invented. But then the Kowalski who originally came back to Private realizes that the time machine must be invented, and goes back to warn Skipper that it must be invented. Rico throws the time machine into the black hole which causes it to go away. The penguins then ask Kowalski to build something that won't destroy the universe like a snowcone machine. Kowalski then builds it, and it ends up completely covering the world in snowcones. We see Skipper in front of the buried statue of liberty and calling Kowalski a maniac (a quote from Planet of the Apes). But then, Kowalski, Private, and Rico show up carrying snowcones as Kowalski says, "Yup. But you have to admit, these snowcones sure are good." To which Skipper replies, "Oh sure. Totally worth it."
