A rush is a psychological term used to define a sudden and brief spike or surge of sensation of pleasure, reward, or euphoria. Such feelings can be both natural and drug-induced.
Psychoactive drugs which enhance dopamine neurotransmission in the central nervous system are commonly capable of such a rush. Examples include opioids like morphine and heroin, stimulants like amphetamine, methamphetamine, methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA; "Ecstasy"), and cocaine, and phencyclidine (PCP), among others.
