In her Seventeen Magazine interview, Stowers stated she had a rough life growing up. She lived with her grandmother in Madera, California. When she was 14, she attended Camp T-Zone, Tyra Banks' self-esteem camp just for girls. Stowers worked as a receptionist in Los Angeles. Before appearing on Cycle 9, Stowers was signed with Photogenics Model Management and had also appeared in a commercial for fast-food restaurant Wendy's, with actor Tom Lenk. She had modeled for DOMIJ clothing.,[3] and d.e.m.o.[4] She was also an extra in an episode of the TV series Ugly Betty and on two episodes of the Tyra Banks Show, modeling for Rami, Project Runway season four contestant. Stowers appeared in the "Welcome Back" music video, and had an ad for 24 Hour Fitness.[5] She also modeled for Especially Yours wigs, and was featured in a fashion spread for InTouch Weekly. She was recruited for America's Next Top Model, which she subsequently won.
Stowers entered the competition with a lot of confidence and high self-esteem. Her bubbly, positive personality, and her strong walk won the judges over.[6] But the judges in the beginning felt she relied too much on her commercial look, so they gave her a Louise Brooks inspired black hair weave to edge her out.[7] She struggled during the third week, and consequently landed in bottom two with contestant Victoria Marshman. But she was spared, and she started improving, producing better photos. She received 2 First Call-Outs and 2 Bottom Two appearances. In one of the challenges, she won an ad for Old Navy[8] In the final deliberation, the judges were impressed with Stowers’s command on the runway and for her fluidity. She won against Chantal Jones.[9]

This is what I've dreamed for I fought for this so hard, and I'm so determined, and I have it now, I want it, I want it so bad, and I got it and I'm never letting it go! I'm America's Next Top Model, baby! | ” |
As part of her prize, Stowers won a contract with CoverGirl Cosmetics which features her campaigning for WetSlicks Fruit Spritzers, and appeared on the cover of the February 2008 issue of Seventeen magazine. She has also won a contract for representation with Elite Model Management.[2] Like previous winners of ANTM, Stowers appeared in weekly segments of My Life as a CoverGirl during the running of America's Next Top Model, Cycle 10.
There has been controversy[10] regarding Stowers's eligibility to appear on the show. The show's rules state that a contestant must not have appeared as a model in a national advertising campaign during the five years prior to production.[citation needed] Stowers appeared in a 2006 commercial for Wendy's, an ad that was part of a national-level campaign. The CW issued a statement[citation needed] that Stowers did disclose her participation in the Wendy's spot, and "after reviewing the commercial, it was determined that her appearance did not amount to "modeling" experience, and therefore did not exclude her from participating in the show."[citation needed]
Several blogs and news outlets have speculated that her past relationship with Banks (her participation in Banks' T-Zone camp and her past appearances on Tyra's television shows and her appearance as a model on The Tyra Banks Show and Cycle 6 of America's Next Top Model), may have influenced the selection of the winner. Stowers had also been a national spokesmodel for Especially Yours wigs for more than a year before the show ran, as well as appearing in an episode of the hit US sitcom Ugly Betty.[11][12][13][14]
Stowers is currently signed to Elite Model Management and L.A. Model Management[15]
Stowers currently has a Metro Style campaign along with fellow Top Model alum, Jaslene Gonzalez, Dani Evans and Whitney Thompson. Stowers was on the cover of Seventeen as part of her prize. She has appeared on the cover of Paper Doll Magazine,[16] had a cover and spread in Florida International Magazine[17] and had spreads in the January 2008 issue of InTouch Weekly,[18] OK! Magazine,[19] the July 2008 issue of Essence Magazine,[20] Jam Style.[21] and had a four page spread in an issue of Macy's.[22] She has modeled for Gilt Groupe[23] and Macy's catalogue online.[24] She has also modeled for Dereon,[25] Apple Bottoms,[26] Baby Phat,[27] and Love Tease[28] for Macy's. Stowers has a campaign with Garage Clothing for their Spring 2009 line.[29] She has also appeared in Modern Bride for the February/March 2009 issue.[30]

Stowers really worked at a service counter. She joined a camp by model Tyra Banks called T-Zone because she had no confidence in herself. After the camp, she had more confidence and became more happy as a person. Stowers appeared in the 6th season of the competition as a minor model with a 1-second appearance. She also appeared as a model on Tyra Banks' show.
Stowers joined the 9th season of America's Next Top Model and became one of the 13 girls to become contestants. She was nearly out when in the bottom two with contestant Victoria Marshman. Her happy personality made her popular among the girls, and she made a best friend, Chantal Jones.
Stowers was No. 1 for two times, which helped her become better in Tyra Banks's eyes. Stowers was called short and fat by one of the girls, Bianca Golden, and when she was helped by Jones, it made the two's friendship even better. Stowers however was too happy-go-lucky to do serious-looks, and landed in the bottom two again, this time with Jenah Doucette. She however had called Doucette lousy in front of the judges, and as they believed her, Doucette was kicked out instead of her. Stowers joined the final catwalk show with Chantal. The two best friends helped each other, and in the final judging time, Stowers was named the winner.
Stowers was called bad things in the discussion website of America's Next Top Model. She was even said to have slept with one of the judges Nigel Barker in order to win. However, these are all untrue as those who have said that are in truth angry with Stowers winning the competition.
Stowers really knew Tyra Banks, making people think it is unfair to the other girls. Stowers also appeared in an advertisement before, and the rule states that contestants must not have appeared in advertisements in the 5 years.
Stowers' new hair in the competition has made people think she looks like Dora the Explorer, but it is really created from Louis Brooks's hairstyle.
