Salome (Born February 23, 1985 / Persian: سالومه), is a rap artist from Iran.[1] She is known for being the first female rapper of Iran[2], and one of the few.[3] Despite being pretty popular among Iranian youth in the country and also all around the world, she never was allowed to publish a legal copy of her work in Islamic Republic of Iran, since "female vocals" are banned in this country. (Most western-style music is banned in the country.[1])
Her songs are mostly about humanistic ideas and she defines herself as being "non-politic".[4] She has released two albums through internet, "Salome meets Shirali" [5] and "Salome with Friends" [6] which have gained a lot of public attention.
She and Iranian/German rapper "Shirali" performed at "Iranian Intergalactic Music Festival" in Amsterdam in 2006, which was also "The first Iranian Underground Music Festival.[7]
