Samples of Anonymised Records (SARs) are UK data-sets consisting of samples of individual records from national Population Censuses. These very large datasets resemble survey data and are used for a range of applications by social scientists and policy makers.
The first SAR was in 1991. In 2001 the system was extended, and discussions are currently under way in connections with the UK 2011 Population Census [1]
