Mexico's Secretariat of National Defense (Secretaría de la Defensa Nacional) is the government department in charge of national defense.[1]. Before 1937, the position was called the Secretary of War and Navy (Secretaría de Guerra y Marina). Today's Secretariat of National Defense (also known by the acronym SEDENA) has responsibility for the land and air branches of the country's armed forces.
