The Select Group is a panel of football referees appointed by Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) to officiate matches in the Premier League, as well as the Football League, FA Cup and Carling Cup. The panel was established in 2001, when referees in England became professional.[1]

Although the Select Group are usually responsible for handling Premier League games, Michael Oliver, from the National list of referees, has been handed his Premier League debut on January 9th 2010, in the game between Fulham and Portsmouth at Craven Cottage.

FIFA Listed

The following referees are currently eligible to be appointed by UEFA and FIFA to international matches[3]:

  • Martin Atkinson
  • Stuart Attwell
  • Mark Clattenburg
  • Mike Dean
  • Andre Marriner
  • Lee Probert
  • Howard Webb

Mike Riley and Rob Styles both retrired at the end of the 2008/09 season, and therefore have lost there FIFA nomination ahead of 2010. Steve Tanner was removed from the Select Group during the 2009/10 season, and therefore alsoi loses his FIFA status. Lee Probert has been drafted in to replace the trio.
