Shanghai is an upcoming drama-mystery-thriller film directed by Mikael Håfström and starring John Cusack and Gong Li. The film has been delayed several times, now facing an April 2010 release.

Plot

In the months leading up to the bombing of Pearl Harbor, an American man (Cusack) arrives in Shanghai to find his friend recently murdered. In investigating his friend's death, he stumbles upon a secret the United States government has been keeping and falls in love in the process.[1]

Shooting began on location in Shanghai, but the shooting permit was revoked shortly thereafter, forcing the producers to shoot in Bangkok and the United Kingdom.
