Career

In 1998, Shawn Fernandes appeared in the Boomtang Boys video for their song "Squeezetoy" as a dancer. He had a few recordings in English and Portuguese under his real name Shawn Fernandes before adopting the name Desman. According to his own account, he adopted the name Desman because in his youth his friends referred to him as "Dez, man" - thus creating his artistic pseudonym Desman.

His self-titled breakthrough album in 2002 featured three top ten singles ("Shook", "Spread My Wings" and "Get Ready") on the Canadian charts. The album went on to achieve gold certification in Canada. The single, "Spread My Wings", is a cover of the unreleased male group, Vega, featuring Chilli of TLC.

His follow up album, Back for More (2005), with more sexual lyrics, reached #50 on the Canadian airplay charts. His first single from that album, "Let's Go", reached #6 on the MuchMusic Countdown. "Let's Go" was also featured on YTV's Hit List.

Desman has also done a remix of "Movie Star", from the album Reloaded, with the Rascalz. He is currently signed with Sony BMG Music (Canada). Desman is also known for sporting the "sidehawk" hair style, a sort of diagonal mohawk. "Spread My Wings" was a featured song in the movie Kangaroo Jack. Desman was also spotted in the movie [[Honey (2003 film)' alongside Jessica Alba, performing his song "Sexy". Shawn was also in the movie How She Move (2008) in the role of Trey.

Shawn won two trophies at the 2003 Urban Music Awards (Urban X-Posure 5)[1]. He is working with Christopher Stewart, Scott Storch, The Clutch, Stargate and Random on a new album.

Shawn has two younger brothers; Jonathan and Danny. In 2008, Danny Fernandes released his debut solo album Intro.

In August 2009, UOMO Media Inc., a multi-channel entertainment company, announced signing of Shawn Desman to a deal which encompasses future music and music-related businesses, including albums, touring, merchandising, television/film projects, and sponsorship agreements. The deal also includes the acquisition of Shawn Desman's entire publishing catalogue of songs including his three top tens hit "Shook", "Get Ready" and "Let's Go".[2] Desman is currently putting the final touches on his third studio album. Also in 2009, Desman was a producer in The Next Star, working with Brock Zanrosso. They created a song called "One More First Chance". The singer married dancer and choreographer Chantelle Leonardo in Toronto on Saturday August 25, 2007.[3]

His 1st single "Shiver" was released onto iTunes on February 23rd. Shawn tweeted on his official Twitter page that his upcoming album "Fresh" is due out in late May or early June.
