Shin-Aomori Station (æ–°é’æ£®é§… Shin-Aomori-eki ?) is a railway station on the JR East northern ÅŒu Main Line located in the city of Aomori, Aomori Prefecture Japan. It is 480.6 rail kilometers from the southern terminus of the ÅŒu Main Line at Fukushima Station. From December 2010, it will become the northern terminus of the TÅhoku Shinkansen.[1]

History

Shin-Aomori Station was opened on November 1, 1986 as a station on the Japan National Railways (JNR). With the privatization of the JNR on April 1, 1987, it came under the operational control of JR East. Work on a new station building began in July 2007, with completion expected by December 2010. Plans exist to continue the line to Hakodate as part of the HokkaidÅ Shinkansen by 2015.

Station Layout

Shin-Aomori Station has a single side platform for bi-directional traffic. At present, the station is unattended. In 2010, a new station is scheduled to open with a single island platform for ÅŒu Main Line trains, serving two tracks. The Shinkansen station will consist of two island platforms serving four tracks. The platforms will be 263 meters long and capable of handling 10-car trains.[2]
