
Showa Station (昭和基地 Shōwa Kichi), also sometimes spelled Syowa[1], is a Japanese research station located at 69°00′S 39°35′E / 69°S 39.583°E on East Ongul Island in Antarctica. The station was built in 1957. It is named for the era in the Japanese calendar during which it was established, the Showa period.
