Simpsonville is a small unincorporated town in northwestern Upshur County, Texas, United States. According to highway signage and road maps this community is named Thomas. The local oral history is that the name was changed because a U.S. Post Office was opened here in the early Twentieth Century and another Texas town of a similar name also had a Post Office. The "new" name may have reflected the name of the Postmaster or of a prominent member of the community.
