Encyclopedia

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

.

A sister ship is a ship of the same class as, or of virtually identical design to, another ship. For instance, the U.S. warships USS Iowa, USS New Jersey, USS Missouri, and USS Wisconsin, are all sister ships, each being an Iowa-class battleship.

The most famous sister ships are the RMS Titanic, the RMS Olympic and the HMHS Britannic.

Other famous sister ships include the Cunard liners RMS Lusitania and RMS Mauretania, and Royal Caribbean International's Explorer of the Seas and Adventure of the Seas.

The sister ship phrasing is also used to refer to aircraft of the same model.
