"Something in Your Mouth" is the second single released from Canadian rock band Nickelback's sixth studio album Dark Horse. The song was released as a digital download to the U.S. iTunes store on October 28, 2008. The song is much heavier than the first single "Gotta Be Somebody", and more like the rest of the album. It was officially released as the second single to rock radio only on December 15, 2008, similar to the release of "Animals" from their previous album All the Right Reasons. It is the only single from that album to not be played on pop stations in the United States and Canada, whereas Shakin' Hands for American radio stations has been only added at alternative rock, active rock and mainstream rock radio stations.
"Something in Your Mouth" sees Nickelback returning to a hard rock sound, with 'adult' themed lyrics, similar to their past hits "Animals" and "Figured You Out". The song is very fast paced, with a prominent guitar riff and rapped vocal parts. It describes an attractive girl who gains the attention of everyone around her with suggestive dancing and thumb sucking. The lyrics contain numerous sexual innuendos, with the line 'something in your mouth' open to various interpretations, the most common association being that of oral sex.
"Something In Your Mouth" debuted at #96 the following week on the Billboard Hot 100. It is the second song from Dark Horse to chart. The song also debuted at #71 on the Canadian Hot 100 and peaked at #48.
The song debuted at #31 on the Mainstream Rock Chart, over a month before its official add date. It rose to #16 the following week, and climbed into the top ten in its fourth week, still ahead of its official release date. On the March 7, 2009 issue of Billboard's Mainstream Rock chart, the single officially topped the chart, becoming Nickelback's seventh career #1 on this format, and their first since "Animals" hit #1 in 2006. The song also at debuted at #40 on the Alternative Songs, and has peaked at #21.
