The South Point school was founded by Late Satikanta Guha on 1 April 1954 at 16, Mandeville Gardens.[1][3] It is also important to mention the contribution of Mrs. Pritilata Guha, wife of Satikanta Guha in nurturing the school from its humble beginnings.[3] For several years, she was in charge of the Junior School, and she was an extremely able administrator. It initially started with 14 students which has now grown up to nearly 13,500. The South Point High school became the first co-educational school to be affiliated to West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) and the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE).
The school is divided into two campuses located close by:

It boasts nearly of a battalion of 405 teachers and 245 members of non-teaching staff. The campuses are under CCTV surveillance with thirty-two cameras installed covering all the gates and the corridors. Indeed, South Point held the record for being the world’s largest school from 1984 to 1994 according to the Guinness Book of World Records.
