Sri Sivasubramaniya Nadar College of Engineering (SSNCE), popularly known as SSN, is an engineering institution located in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. The Institution is certified with ISO 9001:2000[1 ] from Bureau Veritas Quality International.
Sri Sivasubramaniya Nadar College of Engineering was started in 1996 affiliated to Anna University. This institution is the brainchild of Padma Bhushan Dr.Shiv Nadar Founder & Chairman of HCL Technologies, a $ 4 .8 Billion group of companies. All students are taken in purely on merit, unlike most other colleges in the state.
The college started functioning from 1996 at a temporary location in Thoraipakkam in the suburbs of Chennai. SSNCE moved to a sprawling 1 square kilometre campus at Kalavakkam on Rajiv Gandhi Salai (Old Mahabalipuram Road),the Cyber Corridor of Chennai in 1998.Every year Management provides almost 4 Crore scholarship for the eligible students.[1 ][2] [3] There is a "walkin-walkout" scholarship awarded to top 10 rank holders in high school exams where in the students' fees are completely waived off including hostel charges.[1 ]
SSNCE currently offers undergraduate degrees in engineering in the following specializations.
SSNCE also offers Masters in Engineering (M.E.) degrees in the following fields.
In association with Carnegie Mellon University,
the SSN School of Advanced Software Engineering was started in
2001.[4][5]
It offers Masters Programs in:
1. Robotics
2. Software Engineering
SSN School of Advanced Software Engineering in collaboration with Carnegie Mellon University offers for the first time in India: Carnegie Mellon's Master of Science degree program in Information Technology with specialization in Software Engineering, Robotics Technology, Embedded Systems and Software Management.
It is a one and a half year full time residential program. The first year is offered in SSN School of Advanced Software Engineering.
In this period, the students complete core courses, prerequisites, electives and project work. Experienced faculty of SSNSASE and practicing professionals conduct the courses in the first year using Carnegie Mellon courseware. The faculty of SSNSASE and Carnegie Mellon University continuously evaluate the students.
On successful completion of the one-year curriculum in India, the students get a certificate from Carnegie Mellon University. They can then proceed to Carnegie Mellon University to complete further studies in six months, and obtain the MSIT degree. The coursework at Carnegie Mellon University consists of project work under the supervision of Carnegie Mellon University and two electives.
Admission into all courses are done by following the rules and regulations that exist during that year. Certain percent of seats go into the Anna University Single Window System and the remaining is for management quota. The percentage may vary each year.A test and an interview is conducted for Management Quota seats for Bachelors Courses and candidates are shortlisted solely based on merit and proper consideration of caste based quotas as prescribed by the government. Seats for Masters courses are offered on the basis of TANCET scores by AU SWS as well as by management quota following all procedures. Admission into SSNSASE is based on a written test, followed by interview and then a final interview by panel from CMU[5]
