The St Thomas Mores' Basketball Club was founded by John Pigget in the 1980's and played in Junior and Senior competitions at the Knox Amateur Basketball Association (KABA) in Boronia.
The Club was named the Spartans by John Pigget, because the teams used to conduct their training sessions on the bitumen outdoor Basketball court at the School no matter what the weather. Coach Terry Barca eventually moved training to the indoor court built at Mater Christi College, this saw a dramatic improvement in the performance of the club as previously players would not play hard when training on the outside due to injuries if you were to fall over on the bitumen.
Their first Premiership was won by the Under 9's team in 1986.
