Stamford is a city in the state of Connecticut, United States of America.

  • La Guardia Airport: This is a major airport in Queens, with worldwide flights. It is about 45 minutes away.
  • JFK International Airport: This is a major airport in Queens, with worldwide flights. It is about 60 minutes away.

By train

Amtrak's trains make stops at Stamford. Also, Metro North commuter trains come to and from New York City's Grand Central terminal. Off-peak, there is at least one express train (about 45 minutes) and a couple of local trains (about 1 hour 10 minutes). More trains are available during peak hours.

By Car

I-95 is the major interstate highway that goes through downtown Stamford. Merritt Parkway goes parallel to I-95 about 5 miles North.

Get around

Having a car is a must unless you plan on restricting yourself to downtown Stamford and destinations reachable by bus. Rental cars can be easily arranged. Stamford has several bus routes, some of which go to nearby towns in Connecticut and even Westchester County, New York. See here [1] for more information.   • The Stamford Museum and Nature Center, [2] has a farm with cows, horses, pigs, chickens, llamas, and other animals. It also has a small museum and a playground with a huge slide. Take the High Ridge Road exit off the Merritt Parkway and go north for about a mile - it's on your left at the intersection with Scofieldtown Road - it's a fork in the road with a traffic light.

I just discovered Cove Island Park [4]. Located off of exit 9 off of I-95. Make a right off of the exit, take that road to the end make a left, the park is located on your right. It has a small beach and several paths that you can walk or rollerblade. Very close to downtown, you can escape there for a quiet lunch during a hectic workday. Beach stickers [5] are required during the summer months.

  • The Temple Bar, 120 Bedford Street. This main strip has a few pubs and is worth spending some time there on a Friday or Saturday evening.
  • The Thirsty Turtle, Summer and Main Streets. Good happy hour place and they have live music occasionally. There are several bars located on that corner, and you are sure to find one that meets your mood.
  • The Tigin, one of the top Arsenal FC bars in the tri state area.
